Abstract

A radio-peptide peptide analog of a vasoactive intestinal peptide comprising an analog of a peptide adherent to the vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) receptor radio-labeled with a radionuclide wherein said vasoactive intestinal peptide peptide analogue has the His-Ser-Asp-Xxx sequence. Val-4-Cl-D-Phe-Asp-Asn-Tyr-Thr-Arg-Leu-Arg-Lys-Fin-Leu-Ala-Val-Lys-Lys-Tyr-Leu-Asn-Ser-Ile-Leu- Asn-NH2 (SEQ ID NO: 13) where Xxx is Aib a-amino isobutyric acid, Deg, a, a-di-ethylglycine or Ae5e 1-aminocyclopentancarboxylic acid or a salt thereof. A method for producing a radioactive vasoactive peptide analog for use in mammalian systems comprising reacting a salt of a radionuclide with an analogue of a vasoactive intestinal peptide having the sequence (SEQ ID NO: 13) where Xxx is Aib a-amino isobutyric acid, Deg a, a-di-ethylglycine or Ae5e 1-aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid in the presence of a reducing agent for a time and under effective conditions to produce the radio-labeled peptide analog. Use of said VIP radio-labeled peptide analogs for the manufacture of a radiodiagnostic agent to detect the presence of cells carrying the vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) receptor in a mammal a) by administering an analog of the VIP radio-labeled peptide for a time and under effective conditions to achieve the union between the radio-labeled peptide analogue and said cells bearing the VIP receptor and b) determining the distribution of the radio-labeled peptide analog over a period of time and under effective conditions to obtain a scintigraphic image of said mammal.
