Abstract
The present invention relates to useful materials and methods for the control of pests and, especially, of plant pests. More specifically, the present invention presents new polynucleotide sequences optimized for expression in plants encoding pesticidal toxins. The depolinucleotide sequences of the present invention have certain modifications, compared to wild-type sequences, for example that make them especially suitable for optimized expression in plants. By using the polynucleotide sequences described herein, plant transformation can be achieved, by means of techniques known to those skilled in the art, to confer such resistance to pests. In preferred embodiments, the present invention features optimized polynucleotide sequences for expression in plants encoding toxicase proteins which may be referred to as cytC toxins. A preferred toxin encoded by a gene optimized for plant expression is also described.
