Abstract

Un proceso continuo para la preparacion de ácido aromático por oxidacion en fase líquida de un compuesto aromático de alimentacion que comprende: (a)oxidarun compuesto aromático de alimentacion, un benceno que tiene dos sustituyentes alquilo delani llo oxidables o un naftaleno que tiene dos sustituyentes alquilofase líquida que comprende agua,ácido monocarboxílico alifático de 2 a 6 átomos de carbono aproximadamente, un catallizador de oxidacion que comprende undel anillo oxidables a unácido a romático en una mezcla de reaccion en fase líquida que componente de metal pesado y una fuente de bromo y una fuente deoxígeno, bajo condiciones de reaccion que producen una corriente gaseosa a elevada presion que comprende oxígeno, monoxidode carbo no, dioxido de carbono,vaporde agua, ácido monocarboxílico alifático, éster de metilo del mismo y uno o más compuestos de bromuros alquilo 1 a 5 átomos de carbono; (b)proveer un aparatode separacion de alta eficacia, que tiene un materialcatalítico solido promotor de la hidrolisis dispuesto dentro, cuyo catalizador no se desintegra en menosde un mes bajo las condiciones usadas en el aparato de separacion de alta eficacia y el catalizador promueve la hidrolisis del compuesto debromuro alquilo de1-5 átomos de carbono a bromuro de H y el correspondiente alquil-alcohol;y (c)contactar en contracorriente en el aparato de separacion de alta eficacia por lomenos una porcion de la corriente gaseosa de alta presion con unacorriente líquida que co mprende agua, por lo que dentro del aparato de separacion de altaeficacia los compuestos de bromuro de alquilo son hidrolizados coextensivamente a bromuro de H y alquil-alcohol, y el bromuro de H y el ácidomonocarboxílicoalifático se separan en la c orriente líquida. Los ácidos carboxílicos aromáticos son compuestos utiles y constituyen materias primas para una amplia variedadde artículos manufacturados. Por ejemplo el ácido tereftálico se emplea parapreparar tereftalato de polietileno, una mat eria prima para la produccion defibras de poliéster para aplicaciones textiles y de película de poliéster para aplicaciones en envasado y en recipientes. El bromuro de alquiloA continuous process for the preparation of aromatic acid by oxidation in liquid phase of an aromatic feed compound comprising: (a) oxidizing an aromatic feed compound, a benzene having two oxidizable delanyl alkyl substituents or a naphthalene having two alkylphase substituents liquid comprising water, aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of about 2 to 6 carbon atoms, an oxidation catalyst comprising a ring oxidizable to a romatic acid in a liquid phase reaction mixture having a heavy metal component and a source of bromine and a source of oxygen, under reaction conditions that produce a high pressure gas stream comprising oxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, water vapor, aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, methyl ester thereof and one or more compounds of alkyl bromides 1 to 5 carbon atoms; (b) provide a high efficiency separation apparatus, which has a solid hydrolysis promoting catalyst material disposed therein, whose catalyst does not disintegrate in less than a month under the conditions used in the high efficiency separation apparatus and the catalyst promotes hydrolysis of the alkyl bromide compound of 1-5 carbon atoms to H bromide and the corresponding alkyl alcohol; and (c) contacting in the high efficiency separation apparatus at least a portion of the high pressure gas stream with a liquid stream which comprises water, so that within the high efficiency separation apparatus the alkyl bromide compounds are coextensively hydrolyzed to H bromide and alkyl alcohol, and the H bromide and the aliphatic carboxylic acid are separated into the liquid stream. Aromatic carboxylic acids are useful compounds and constitute raw materials for a wide variety of manufactured items. For example, terephthalic acid is used to prepare polyethylene terephthalate, a raw material for the production of polyester fibers for textile and polyester film applications for packaging and container applications.
