Abstract

Una constelación de símbolos está dividida lógicamente en una pluralidad de subconjuntos de múltiples símbolos (201-204). Además, se provee una seriede bits primarios y una serie de bits secundarios. Por lo menos un primer bit primario seleccionado se codifica en control de error (303) para proveer unpresímbolo de M bits (603) que únicamente corresponde al subconjunto de múltiples símbolos (602). El presímbolo de M bits es modulado (304) por almenos un primer bit secundario seleccionado para proveer un símbolo de N bits (605) que únicamente corresponde a un símbolo incluido en el subconjunto demúltiples símbolos. Los bits primarios recuperados se determinan comparando un símbolo recibido (609) con sólo un símbolo en cada unolos de subconjuntos demúltiples símbolos. Además, los bits secundarios recuperados se determinan comparando el símbolo recibido con límites de decisión predeterminados(622). Deesta manera, se proveen grados de protección de errores variables que permiten una variedad de velocidades de codificación más amplia.
