Abstract

A system and method for conducting a transaction are provided, in a method at a transaction terminal device (101), the total amount payable being manually or automatically entered into a suitable application for live transmission to a payment system platform, followed by the customer using a registered mobile phone to dial a USSD Code or Missed Call Number uniquely associated with said transaction terminal device, and receiving a PIN to Pay request on the customer mobile phone. Upon PIN entry the payment system platform (150) transmits the combined payload data including the merchant terminal id, amount due, customer mobile phone number, payment provider id and customer PIN to a relevant participating payment provider, which proceeds to settle the transaction on behalf of the customer with the merchant.
