Abstract

A light emitting device exhibiting excellent thermal conductivity, heat dissipation properties and radiation properties in which heat generated from a light emitting element can be dissipated smoothly and efficiently, lifetime of the light emitting element can be prolonged, and uneven brightness of the light emitting element can be prevented. The light emitting device comprises a heat sink for holding a plurality of light emitting elements and a cover body, and a base for supplying power to the plurality of light emitting elements. The heat sink has heat dissipation holes penetrating through the light emitting elements in the direction of the optical axis thereof, and heat dissipation fins formed on the outer circumference of the heat sink facing the outside space. Heat generated from the plurality of light emitting elements is dissipated by natural convection of air flowing through the heat dissipation holes and the heat dissipation fins.
