Description

MUSIC TRANSMITTING AND VOTING SYSTEM ON MUSIC EVENTS
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
1. Background of the invention
This invention relates to design and functioning scheme of music events and voting on those events. That primarily relates to competitive electronic music festivals even if in reality there is no limitation regarding the kind and/or the way of performing the music.
According to International Patent Classification (IPC) the invention can be classified in
G07C 13/00 Voting apparatus
H04B 7/00 Radio Transmission Systems
2. Technical problem
The Classic approach to the organization and performance of the event of competitive character from the electronic music field is based on following characteristics:
- For quality presentation every competitor needs 30 minutes minimum and because of that it is impossible to secure the performance for every performer/competitor which has applied; therefore the opportunity of performing gets only few of all who applied that are being selected by some jury based on smaller or bigger number of relevant criteria.
- Performers/competitors don't have the complete and relevant feedback information, by the audience, about approval of their performance until the end of the competition,
- Performers/competitors that are performing earlier have less chance than the ones that are performing later, because the voting is always being pursued after the performance of every performers/competitors
- The jury selects the winner, which isn't always an objective decision
- There is no exact way of determining the winner
- The event is taking place on open and/or in the closed space,
- For the space where the event is taking place, it is necessary to be wired for sound in adequate way,
- Performers/competitors (D J-disc jockeys, singers, players ...) are performing one by one by determined order,
- It is problematic and technically complicated to satisfactorily soundproof the space where the event is taking place, especially in the open (objections from the neighboring facilities are common because of the great noise it produces.)
The system, according to the invention, solves the following technical problems: - More performers/competitors can perform at once, by which the time of the event is being reduced and it gives the opportunity to other performers/competitors who applied to perform
- It provides an exact/objective way for determining the winner
- The audience selects the winner
Performers/competitors can follow the voting process during their performance and, as needed, correct the elements of their performance
- Complete elimination of the noise because it isn't necessary to soundproof the whole area where the event is taking place
- Wireless transmission of audio signal to the device, e.g. headphones with the receiver, which is being given to every participant of the event regardless of whether he belongs to the audience, performers/competitors, organizer or to the jury*
3. Description of the prior art
By testing the condition of the technique three relevant patent documents have been found:
1. Croatian patent application P20050257A for the invention named "The device for evaluation of the performance on DJ's competitions and events".
2. Hungarian patent HU215145 for the invention named "Method for implementing bi-direction wireless low range communication favorably in closed room, for establishing wireless computer voting apparatus, and system for implementing said method".
3. American patent US4290141 for the invention named "Electronic Voting System".
A greater number of the patent's documents that have been found by researching, refers to the voting devices that are based on the computers that are networked through the Internet or that are connected with the telecommunication network (mobile voting and/or phone voting). Because of this they are not relevant for this invention.
4. Brief summary of the invention
Primary goal of invention is to make possible to do precise, fair and objective evaluation of performers/competitors on music events of competitive character.
Another primary goal of invention is to make possible for the performers/competitors the precise feedback information from the audience about approval of personal performance at the specific moment and up to the specific moment.
Secondary goal of invention is realization of the event with total elimination of the noise, which is being accomplished by wireless transmission of audio signal to all participant equipped with adequate device, e.g. headphones with receiver.
The rest of the goals and advantages of the invention will partly be found out through the description of its achievement, and partly through its usage. According to the invention system includes
1. Console or transmitter
2. Server or transceiver for communication with headphones
3. Indicator of voting results
4. A number of wireless headphones with implemented transceiver for communication with server and light signal that indicates performer/competitor that is selected for listening at the moment.
5. Software for reception and storage of the input data, their editing and displaying the results of voting.
Technical novelty of the system according to the invention is achieved by interactions between server, transceiver for communication with server embedded in wireless headphones, results indicator and signal light on the headphones.
Console is made of two or more audio inputs with the equal number of belonging transmitters and antennas for transmission of audio signal to the wireless headphones.
Console transmits all audio input signals at the same time. Every audio signal is transmitted on special frequency.
Server is made of:
-Transceiver,
-Computer unit for reception, storage and processing of the input data.
Server communicates with wireless headphones at certain time intervals. That means that after definite time of pause follows the reception of input data, from each headphones separately, and their storage in memory or in the database of input data, than follows the pause and again reception of input data and their storage in the database and this is being repeated until the end of performance of performers/competitors. Larger reliability and correctness of the final voting results is directly proportional to greater amount of the data in the input database.
At the end, by an numeric processing of the input data saved in the database we determine how long was every performer/competitor listened to during his performance, and that determines their final order and the most listened as the winner of the competition.
Results indicator is computer screen, screen and/or a special Scoreboard which shows to the audience and to the performers/competitors that are performing at that moment, what is their position regarding the rating from the beginning of the performance up to that moment.
Console and server can be separate devices and may be components of one device, depending of the chosen technology through which the audio signal will be transmitted to the wireless headphones.
Wireless headphones are made of:
-Receiver of the audio signal from the console in two or more frequencies given,
-Transceiver for communication with server -Buttons for selection of the channel/default frequency of performer/competitor, -Light signal that instantly shows which performer/competitor is chosen for listening -Volume controls and -Power supply
The particularity of wireless headphones is that by the help of the light signal they make possible to make interaction between the audience and the performer, and by the help of implemented transceiver for communication with server it is possible to server to make a reliable and correct information analysis of how much was every performer/competitor listened.
In example of the use of this invention the results indicator makes possible to performers/competitors to have insight in rating until that moment, and the light signal on the wireless headphones gives an insight into rating at that moment. For them that is a very important pair of information, under which they can estimate their position at the contest, approval of the performance style and the chances for winning.

14. Wireless connection between the console and a number of wireless headphones 15. server
16. wireless connection between server and more a number of wireless headphones
17. results indicator 6. Detailed description of the preferred embodiment
Now there will be explained details of this invention's implementation/design, the example shown on accompanying drawings.
It is about the competition of DJ' s (disc jockeys) which requires the following devices for its realization:
-Console (1) with three audio inputs (2) and belonging antennas (4)
-Headphones (7) with buttons (8) for selecting the performer/competitor (12), light signals (9) on the frame, with implemented/embedded transceiver for communication with server (15),
-Server (15)
-Results indicator (17)
Three DJs are performing at the same time on the standard equipment with the difference that signal (13) form DJ's counter doesn't go to the preamplifier and amplifier but it goes to the console (1), from where by the help of antennas (4) wirelessly (14) it is transmitted to the headphones (7) or to the audience and/or to the jury. The main difference according to classical DJ's competitions is that the high level of noise that is transmitted into environment is being drastically reduced, especially are reduced the tones of low frequency, i.e. basses, which are one of the basic elements of so called electronic music. Very often there is a too (big) level of the noise, with the usual late night start and early morning endings of this kind of music events, which is the basic reason of community disapproval, community/public which is generally averse toward a high number of dB, electronic music and the time of such events.
The system, according to the invention, makes possible for every visitor with headphones (7) individual regulation of volume with the button (10), without disturbing other visitors or anyone in the environment.
When the visitors arrive they get the headphones to use (7) and with their help they can, in any moment, with the regulation button (10), adjust the volume, or by using the buttons (8) they can choose which performer/competitor they want to listen, If the listener presses the "blue" button (8) on the headphones (7), on the top of the frame there turns on the blued LED (9) which signals to the rest of the visitors and performers/competitors (12) whom this visitor has decided to listen at the moment. Wireless signal console (l)-headphones (7) can be realized at frequency of 900MHz, and the signal server (15)-headphones (7) at 433 MHz. The course of the signal (16) server (15)-headphones (7) looks like this: As every headphones (7) has their code, server (15) in specific time intervals sends an inquiry -headphones number (code of the headphones), which channel are you on? Server (15) waits for reply for the next 10-20ms. If it gets the input data it inscribes it into the database, if it doesn't receive it, the server marks the headphones as unreachable (or tries one more call to the same headphones).
After the headphones (7) are unreachable for five times it deletes it from the database of the active ones, and until than it leaves it on the same channel as before. Afterward the server (15) passes onto the next headphones (7) and repeats the described action. That whole circle should last less than 0,5s; it means that for 100 headphones (7) it should take about a minute, so update of data for every headphone
(7) is 1 minute, which is precise enough for the contest.
On the indicator (17) the data that inform the performer/competitor and the audience about the rating until that moment are being shown.
Let us say that the performer/competitor (12), who is performing under red color, at one moment, based on information that are available on the indicator (17), understood that his performance is very poorly accepted and decides to change the style of performance. He can immediately see if and how the audience accepts his new performance style. In fact if LED red colors on the headphones (7) in the audience start to turn on and start to light (9) than it is on the right way, or in the opposite he has to find a new solution.
7. The way invention is to be applied
The system according to the invention can be applied at every music events of the competitive character, where voting of the audience and/or of the jury determines the winner of the competition.
In the described variant of the device system according to the invention, e.g. on DJ's competitions, there are three DJ's performing at the same time. The competition can be organized in that way that objectively the most listened DJ passes further and so on until the finals in which we get the winner of the mentioned competition.
All visitors are equipped with headphones (7) on which in every moment they are free to choose which performer/competitor they want to listen and by which they are, by signal light, showing which chosen performer/competitor (12) are listening at the moment.
Let's say that the performers/competitors have been given 45' for performance. After let's say 15' every performer/competitor (12) on the results indicator sees what is his status, that is, how much was his present style accepted by the audience. If he notices that he's not having a good placement, he can immediately start a different style, a light indication (9) on headphones (7) in the audience will give him immediate feedback information on how did the audience accept his new attempt.
After expiry of 45' sever (15) makes the final analysis of the input data, it determines the final results and publishes which performer/competitor was the most successful in this round of competition, and the new performers/competitors (12) start their performance.
To the visitors, performers/competitors and organizers of music events of competitive character the system according to the invention represents more then a welcomed innovation that gives them numerous new possibilities.
To the experts in this field it is clear that it is possible to make numerous and software and/or hardware modifications described varieties of the system according to the invention, without leaving the spirit and range of the invention.
