Abstract

The invention relates mainly to a pneumatic brake booster with variable jump height. A first jump value corresponds to a comfort braking phase and a second value corresponds to an emergency braking phase. According to the invention, the booster comprises a low-pressure chamber (9), a variable-pressure chamber (11) and a three-way valve (38) which is operated by an actuating rod (18) that is controlled by a brake pedal. At rest, said three-way valve provides communication between the chamber (9) and the variable-pressure chamber (11) and, during braking, provides communication between the variable-pressure chamber (11) and a high-pressure environment. The inventive booster comprises means (39, 65, 69, 71) that can be used to alter the jump height of said booster in the event of emergency braking. The invention applies mainly to the production of braking systems for motor vehicles and, in particular, for passenger cars.
