WITNESSES.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
THOMAS MACKELLAR, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO MACKELLAR, SMITHS & JORDAN, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,955, dated December 10, 1878; application filed November 2, 1878. [Term of patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern- Be it known that I, THOMAS MAOKELLAR, (assignor to MACKELLAR, SMITHS & J ORDAN,) of thecity and eountyofPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of PrintingTypes, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to which reference is made; and consists of a boldface letter shaded upon the right and bottom by a lighter line.
This letter differs from the design pat-ented by Andrew Little, February 2, 1871, No. 4,673, in that the letters of the presentdesign are bolder-faced and more extended, that the cross-lines of the A and H are inclined and meet about centrally, that the lower portions of the M, N, V, and W are concaved, as shown, and that the tail of the Q, is curved and presents the appearance of being flattened out. The upper left-hand portions of the figures 1 and 7 have the inclined sides,as shown. The lower portion of the figure 2 has the inclined side upon the right, as shown. The upper portion of the figure 5 has the inclined side upon the right, as shown.
In the lowercase the design is preserved, the upper portion of the b, d, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, p, r, and n being extended beyond the up-anddown port-ions of the letter, and conca'ved, as shown. The lower portions of the v and w are concaved upon the right, as shown.
Having now described my design, what I claim as new is The design for a font of printing-type substantially as shown and described.
THOS. MACKELLAR.
In presence of- 0. F. HUGH, GEO. WM. WITHAM.
