LOCK-STRIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 12, 1910.
Patented Nov. 15, 1910.
Serial No. 549,014.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE J. BUMILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock-Strikes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lock strikes and has for its object the provision of a lock strike by means of which a 'door lock shall be completely guarded against tamperin with from the outside.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanving drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a door jamb and door equipped with my invention, and Fig. 2, a partial end view of the door.
The preferred form of construction C0111- prises the usual strike-plate 1 having the usual guard flange 2 at its outer edge. In order to prevent tampering with the look from above or below additional guard members 3 are provided adjacent the top and bottom edges of strike-plate 1. As illustrated in Fig. 1 these guard members consist of angle plates having one flange secured to the door jamb by means of nails or screws 4. Channel members 5 are secured in notches in the end of the door 6 in position to receive the outwardly extending flanges of angle members 3 as the door swlngs shut. By th1s construction it will be observed that access to the door latch or bolt from above or below by means of a curved or inclined instrument is prevented as well as direct access from the outside.
lVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a door lock the combination with a strike-plate provided with a guard flange at its outer side; separate angle members secured to the door amb adjacent the top and bottom ends of said plate; and channel members secured in the end of the door and adapted to receive the outwardly extending flange of said angle members, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EUGENE J. BUMILLER.
Witnesses 2 HELEN F. LILLIS, J OSHUA R. H. Powers.
