SHUTTER-FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,304, dated May 16, 1899. Application filed October 19, 1898. Serial No. 694,026. No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, JOHN LUnLow KEN- DRIOK, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shutter-Fasteners,of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved construction of shutter-fastener To which may be readily applied to and removed from operative position with respect to the shutter and is adapted to be held in locked position by the window-sash.

Other objects and advantages of the inven- I 5 tion will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be set forth in the claims.

The features of this invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective sectional view of a window-frame, a window-sash, and a sh utter with the fastening device in place. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastening device.

A represents the window-sill of the frame;

B, one of the side rails of said frame.

0 represents one of the side rails of the window-sash; D, the bottom rail thereof.

E represents one of the window-shutters.

F represents a section of the opposite window-shutter.

G represents the fastening device. This fastening device is composed of a single rod having two bent ends, each of which is at right angles to the plane of the rod and also to each other. Each end is adapted to journal in a socket, so that either end may be swung into and out of engagement with its respective socket. Each bent end serves as a center for the engagement of the opposite 4.0 end.

H represents the sockets, formed in the respective parts of the frame, sash, window-sill, and shutters.

It will be observed that a single fastener 5 locks both shutters in position, as the shutter F is held in place by the flange of shutter E.

It will be observed that when the window is locked down on the shutter-fastener the two locks con jointly efiect the locking action. 56

Having described my invention, 1 claim- 1. The combination with a window-sill having a socket therein, and swinging blinds, one of which overlaps the other and is provided with a socket in its edge, of a removable fas- 5 5 tening device therefor, consisting of a rod having its ends bent at right angles to said rod and to each other and adapted to enter the respective sockets in said sill and blind.

2. The combination with a window-sash, a 6e window-sill having a socket therein which is covered by the lower rail of the sash, and outside blinds, one of which overlaps the other and is provided with a socket, of a removable fastening device consisting of a rod having its ends bent at right angles to said rod and to-each other and adapted to enter the respective sockets in said sill and blind.
