IMPROVEMENT IN ROUND COMES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ORRIN B. GALLUP, ot Summit,

in the county of Kent, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Round Combs; and I do'hereby declare that the following is a clear, full, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of, this specification, and in which- Figures 1, 2, and 3, represent different views of a round comb, constructed according to my invention, and

Figure 4, Ia modification of the invention.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

This invention consists of a round comb, having a joint at or near its centre, whereby not only the ne.- cessarily high cost of tortoise-shell and other round combs, as constructed of one piece, may be reduced, and a better and more convenient adj nstment on the head be secured, but also whereby provision is made for the folding together of its parts, for packing or transporting-purposes.

vReferring to the accompanying drawings-'- A is a curved band, constructed of tortoise-shell, horn, or other matcri'al of which round combs are usually made.

It may be provided with teeth along its entire length,

or instead thereof, side-combs B B may be pivoted at or near its extremities. v

At or near the central portion of this band A, I construct a joint or hinge, x, so that the said band, which has been heretofore constructed of on'e piece of material, thereby, in some instances, involving necessarily high cost ofthe comb, as ill the use of tortoiseshell, may,by being constructed of two or more pieces, not only reduce said cost, but also enable the form of the comb to be variously shifted or changed to suit the taste ofthe wearer, as illustrated in fig. 3.

Moreover, by means of said joint, provisionfis made for the folding together of the parts ofv the comb, for packing or' transporting-purposes, as illustrated in red outline in fig. 1.
