Description

5mm @wat @intim GEORGE L. GIBSON, JR., OF CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA.
Lenen Patent Naf 89,477, dated Apre 27, 1869.
IMPROVED CORK-EXTRACTOR.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. GIBSON, Jr., of Concord, in the county of Gabarlas, and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvcments in Cork-Extractors; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which is represented a perspective View Of my cork-extractor.
The nature of my invention consists in the employ V ment of a straight wire, pointed at the lower extremity, and provided at said extremity with two, or more, spring-clamps, the Object of which will be hereinafter fully described.
To enable others skilled in the art tO which my i11- vention appertains, to make and use the same, I will new describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing- A represents a straight wire, pointed at the lower extremity, E, and provided with two or more clampsprings, C C, of convenient length, united to wire A, at the point B, by welding, soldering, Or otherwise.
The clamps C C, have claws l) l), at the full extremity, for. taking hold Of the cork when the instrument is withdrawn from the bottle, the sides ofthe neck of the bottle closing the clam'ps, by pressure in withdrawing.
This instrument has a handle, of wood or other ma! terial, H, at right angles tO the wire A.
By vattaching a slide-ring, S, over the clamps, the same instrument can beused as a bottle-washer.
Having thus described ihy invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is?- The spring-claws C O, in combination with the pointed rod A, when said claws are secured at such a distance above the point E, that their length will be permanently the same, or about the same, as that portion of the rod below the place at which the claws and rod are secured, all arranged to operate as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony thatl claim the foregoing as my own, I aix my signature in presence Of two witnesses.
