'IMPROVEMENT IN BRANDS FOR MARKING ANIMALS,`
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 64,263, dated April 30, 1867.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it .known that I, HEADLEY THOMPSON, of Hector, in the county of Schuyler and State of New York, have invented a new and Im' proved Stamp for Marking Animals, and other like uses; and I do hereby declare that the fOllowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specitication, in which- Figure 1 is a plan, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view, of one of the sockets.
The same letters are employed in all the figures in the designation of the same parts.
A A A are movable letters of metal, which may be used for stamping or branding. They are constructed with stems Aprojecting from the back at the center of the letter, or in such v manner that the point Of support may permit the adjustment of the letter in proper relation to the other letters with which it may be used.
B is the stock constructed with two, three, Or more prongs which terminate with a socket, B', to receive the stem Al of the letter. When the stem is inserted in the socket it is held in place by the thumb-screw C passing -through the shell of the socket and pressing against the side ot the stem.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as an article of manufacture, is-
.The movable type A constructed with stem Al thereto attached, in combination with the stock B constructed with sockets B and the thumb-screws C, and arranged for use substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
