Description
'GEORGE MURRAY, OF CAMBRIDGEPORT, MASSACHUSE'ITS.4
Letters Patent No. 62,284, dated February 19,1861.
IMPROVEMENT IN STILTS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MURRAY, of Cambridgeport, in the county of Middlesex, in the State of Man-g` sachusetts, have invented a new and improved Stilt for ehildrens toy; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being haft to the accompanying drawings and to" the letters of reference marked thereon. i
The nature of iny invention consist-s in having a standardof wood, with a movable-step o1' stirrup tted to slide up or down on the standard to different points that are desirable, thus enabling any person to have a high or low stilt with the same standard.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, l will proceed to describe its construction and operation. v y
I make a standard, B, of wood, with notches C C inserted on one side, as far up as may be desirable, the same as shown in Figure 1, which is a sectionahviow of my invention. I then form a sleeve, D, with a step, three sides of metal, with the step E of wood, which is held to its place by a livet, or its quivalent, as shown at I in Figure'. On the'bottom ofl the step is a lip, A, fitted so as to enter the notches C, as shown in iig. 1. On the back side of the step, bearing against the standard, is a spring, S, attached, which keeps the lip A into the notches C, thereby securing a step by the raising or lowering of the sleeve at any point desired. It will be seenby itting the spring on the back of the step aitthe top, pressing against the standard, that it will keep the lip at the bottom pressed securely into the notch in the standard, as desired. 4
VWhat I claim as my invention, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
lThe movable step, as described, in combination with the standard, for the object specified.
` GEORGE MURRAY.
