Description

' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELTPHALET S. SORIPTUR-E, OF BROOKLYN, NEV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN OIL-SANS.l
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 41,537, dated February 9, 1564.
Figure l is a detached View showing my im` proved spout for oil-cans; Fig. 2, a sectional view showing the body of an oil-can prepared for the reception of my improved spout; Fig. 3, view showing an oil-can provided with my improved spout.
In the drawings like parts of the invention are designated by the same letters of reference.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and operation of an improved spout for oil-cans, as hereinafter fully set forth.
To enable those skilled in the arts to make and use my invention, I' will speak of its con struction and operation.
A shows the body ofv an ordinary oil-can, and B is the screw-seat cup inserted in the same and intended for the reception of the spout C. The screw-seat cup B is provided with the female screw Z.
C shows the spout, provided withthe male screw a, said male screw a iitting'into the female screw b upon the interior of the screwseat cup B. The spout C is also provided with thenib D, soldered to it, which nib D keeps the sponge vE in position and serves as a means of tightly screwing the'spout O into the screwseat cup B.
c is a leather washer upon the spout, and E shows a circular piece of sponge placed upon the spout directly over the flange F.
The parts beingthus constructed, the screwseat cup Bis soldered into the top of an ordi-- nary oil-can, and the spout C, constructed as shown, is inserted into the screw-seat cup B and held iirmly in place by means of the male screw a, fitting into the female screw b.
The principal purposes of my invention are, by the use or employment of the screw-seat cup B, constructed and attached to an ordinary oilcan, to enable the party using the same to readily grasp the can without the risk of covering the hand with oil, as in the case of the common oil-can; the oil in the latter case dripping down from the spout upon the body of the can 5 in the facility afforded for filling the can, the cup serving as a funnel, and in the saving ofthe oil-drippings heretofore lost by the use or employment of the sponge receiving and retaining them as they drip from the spout O. I
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' rIhe use or employment of the screw-seatA cup B, in combination with the body A and spout C, constructed, as shown, for the purposes fully set forth.
