Description

M y 8, 1962 R. w. GWYNNE 3,032,875
HAIR TRIMMER HEAD Filed July 27. 1959 INVENTOR.
RALPH W. GWYNNE United States Patent 3,032,875 HAIR TRIMMER HEAD Ralph W. Gwynne, 200 S. Kenmore St., Los Angeles 4, Calif. Filed July 27, 1959, Ser. No. 829,840 1 Claim. (Cl. 30-200) This invention relates to a hair trimmer head.
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide a hair trimmer cutting head that when rested on the face of a head severs and contacts a substantial area of hair contained thereon instead of having only a leading edge contacting as with the case of the ordinary clippers and cutters now in use.
It is another object of the present invention to provide in a hair trimmer head a guard serving as a gauge for controlling the length of the hair cut and wherein the leading portions of the head cuts from the longer hair while the trailing edge of the head cuts and finishes the shorter hair down to a minimum length.
It is still another object of the invention to provide a hair trimmer head which is adapted to be operated by all of the power mechanisms ordinarily used with hair trimmers, clippers or shavers, electric or spring motors and wherein the same cutting movement of transverse reciprocation is used.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a hair trimmer head having the above objects in mind, which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, easy to install on the razor motor and handle, of pleasing appearance, safe to operate, sanitary, elficient and effective in use.
For a better understanding of the invention reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the trimmer cutter with the trimmer head of the present invention attached thereto,
FIG. 2 is a front view of the trimmer,
FIG. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 2, and
FIG. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 44 of FIG. 3.
Referring now to the figures, represents a handle having a motor 11, either electric or spring, having the vibrating arm 12 that reciprocates transversely to operate cutting blade assembly 13. The cutting blade assembly comprises a series of cutting blades 14 beveled to their upper and lower ends and extending on a bias over corresponding grill Work 15 of a guard or trim head 16. The guard 16 also serves as a gauge in that the grill work tapers from a high thickness to the forward end of the trimmer head as indicated at 15' and to a minimum thic ness as indicated at 15". The cutting blade assembly 13 lies in a slot 17 across the top of the grill work, the ends of which are shaped to receive the bevel cut ends of the cutting blades 13. The cutting blade assembly has a central coupling recess 18 for receiving the vibrating extension 12. The guard 16 and the cutting assembly 13 are assembled together and are held upon the handle by a pivot lock member 19* pivoted upon the handle by a pin "ice 20 and over which the head 16 is slipped when the lock member is extended outwardly with the lock member extended through a band 21 on the guard 16 and snapped home in place and retained by squared cam edge 22 of the lock member adjacent to the pivot.
In use the grill work 15 is placed on the face or head and will cover a substantial area thereof so that if firm footing is had of the trimmer and wherein as it is slid over the skin the long hair will be cut first and thereafter the short hairs will be cut leaving the finish trim of the hair for the minimum as desired and with the hairs forwardly of the rear edge of the trimmer being left to the desired length to effect the trim.
Automatically the gauging is effected and without guess Work of the operator of a standard clipper having but a single leading edge and who must gauge the length of the hair by eye. With the present trimmer the head will be taken to a point where the trailing edge comes to the edge-of the hair line leaving the hairs thereabove at the varying length depending upon the varying heighth of the grill Work.
It will be seen that by pivoting downwardly the trim head 16 from the handle the trim head and the cutter assembly can be slid from the lock arm 19 and the cutter assembly removed from the head allowing the cutter assembly and the head to be easily cleaned and the hair pieces removed. Automatically upon reassembling the head and the cutter upon the lock arm 19 and turning the same home driving engagement is effected by the coupling recess 18 with the end of the vibrating arm 12. The driving arm 12 and the motor is angled at approximately forty-five degrees from the handle.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A hair trimmer head comprising a guard having grill work with leading and trailing ends and a skin abutting surface, said grill work extending along the complete length of the guard and decreasing in depth from the leading end to the trailing end, a recess formed across the width of the guard and extending substantially the length thereof intermediate the leading and trailing ends to form a fiat cutter surface disposed at an acute angle with said skin abutting surface of said grill work by virtue of the decreasing depth of the grill, a reciprocating cutter fully occupying said recess in a sliding relation with said flat cutter surface, a band on the rear side of the guard adapted to receive a pivot lock arm for securing the guard and cutter to a handle, and means to operate said reciprocating cutter in a cutting relationship with said flat cutter surface.
