This invention relates generally to archery equipment and is more particularly concerned with a novel combined arrow quiver and carrying case.

Conventional arrow quivers generally comprise an open top tubular sleeve having a closed bottom wherein the quiver is disposed on a users back, the arrows contained therein being withdrawn nock portion first over the shoulder of the user, and when the user is located in relatively close proximity to game at which the arrow is to be projected, the raising of the arms will at times frighten the game away. Additionally, use of a conventional quiver exposes the arrows to weather conditions, rain, for example, and when an arrow is with drawn considerable noise is involved, thus also tending to frighten game away.

A primary object of this invention is to provide a novel combined arrow quiver and carrying case which may be disposed on the back of the user wherein the arrows contained therein are substantially protected from weather conditions, said case including an elongated longitudinal access portion in a side wall thereof accessible to the left or right hand side of a user, depending upon which hand is normally used for extracting arrows from the quiver, the arrows being extracted point portion first adjacent the hips of a user thus obviating the difiicul-ties encountered in conventional quivers.

A further object of the invention in conformance with that set forth is to provide a novel combined quiver and carrying case for arrows including an elongated tubular body member incorporating in an intermediate side portion thereof a transverse longitudinally extending slot portion, the lower end portion of which being disposed above a closed bottom wall of the body member, arrows being disposed in the body member with the points facing downwardly in engagement with the upper surface of the bottom of the body member,'and upon raising the arrows they may be extracted through the slot portion point first in a readily available position for immediate disposal on thebow string of abow with a minimum amount of loss of time.

Another object of invention in conformance with that set forth is to provide in a novel quiver and carrying case of the character set forth wherein 'means are provided thereon wherein the quiver or carrying case may be disposed for facilitating the use of the same by either right or left handed persons.

These together with other objects and advantages which will subsequently become apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail, a fragmentary portion of a person utilizing the combined quiver and carrying case is indicated generally at P in Figure 1, in the preferred embodiment the persons utilizing the novel quiver and carrying case will be right handed, and by moving his hand H rearwardly as seen in Figure 1, may readily remove arrows contained in the novel combined quiver and carrying case which is indicated generally at 10. The combined quiver and carrying case 10 includes a tubular body member 12 made of any suitable material, top grain cow hide, for example, which has been pre-shrunk in order for the body member to retain its shape during varying weather conditions. The body ember 12 tapers from top to bottom and has a substantially elliptical cross section as shown in Figures 4 and 5. The body member 12 has extending transversely across the bottom a suitably secured bottom wall 14 and extending transversely over the upper edge is a pivotal top or lid member 16 incorporating a peripheral depending flange portion 18 circumposed about the outside of the body member 12, the lid 16 being pivotally connected to the body member 12 by means of a depending hinge strap 20 suitably secured adjacent the upper edge of the body member adjacent the upper edge thereof. Extending from a side of the lid 16 opposite the hinge strap 20 is a cooperating flexible strap member 22, cooperating with a suitable buckle assembly 24 secured on the outer surface of the body member. If desired, the body member may include a suitable frame portion 26 for visibly disposing a hunting license. Furthermore, the case member may incorporate on the inner periphery thereof adjacent the upper edge integral pocket portion 28 which is accessible when the lid is open, aid pocket portion being suitable for carrying spare bow strings and other small archery accessories, for example.

The wider portion of the body member 12 is normally disposed in juxtaposition on the central back portion of a person P using the quiver and carrying case.

Extending longitudinally in the side portion of a body member 12 and opening toward the minor axis of the various elliptical cross sections passing therethrough is an elongated slot portion 30, the lower end 32 of which being disposed above the upper surface of the bottom 14, see Figure 3, and the upper end 34 of said slot portion terminating at an intermediate portion of said body member. The arrows A may be of varying lengths and are disposed with the point portion in engagement with the upper surface of the bottom 14 of the body member. In order to remove the arrows from the case, they are lifted toward the top or lid of the body member iii the direction indicated by the dotted direction arrows in Figure 3, whereafter the arrow is removed through the slot port-ion 30, point portion first, and in a manner wherein the notch portion of the arrow may be readily disposed on the bow string of a bow.

Circumposed about the inner periphery of the body member and extending from the upper surface of the bottom 14 thereof is a protective sleeve 36 of a suitable material such as leather, etc. which has a suitable notch portion therein conforming to the lower portion of the slot portion 39 of the body member. This sleeve 36 will protect the inner surface of the body member 12 against damage from the sharpened arrow heads of the arrows. The portion 39 may have extending thereabout suitable protective collar 38, of any suitable material, the upper edge portion of which forming a laterally extending flange 40 extending away from the outer surface of the body member 12 and being disposed substantially across the upper end 34 of the slot portion 3t; wherein when the case is used in the rain, for example, water passing down the outer surface of the body member 12 will be disposed on opposite sides of the slot portion 30 thus preventing the entrance of water into the body member 12.

Thus a user of the case may reach within the slot portion 30 thereof readily determine which type of arrow will be withdrawn therefrom depending on the type of game which he is shooting at.

Thus as disclosed in Figure 1, when utilizing the

48 and 66 the case will be utilized by a right handed person, however, by merely reversing the ease and disposing the slot portion 30 thereof toward the left, and utilizing the loop portions 59 and 68 the case may be utilized by a left handed person.

When the case is not utilized in the manner shown in Figure l, the stra, s may be circumposed about an intermediate portion of the body member overlying the slot portion 30 thereof, see the dotted lines in Figure l, wherein when so disposed accidental loss of the arrows is prevented.

When utilizing the novel combined quiver and carrying case the arrows are substantially protected at all times and are provided in a readily accessible position for use when hunting, giving rise to a minimum of movement on the part of the person using the same thus reducing the possibility of frightening the game which is being hunted. Furthermore, although not shown, suitable handle means may be secured on the body member 12 for carrying the same, not disposed on the shoulders of a person.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A combined arrow quiver and carrying case assembly comprising an elongated tubular body member ineluding a transverse bottom and top closing opposite ends thereof, strap means on the body member for hanging the body member on the back 'of a user, and an elongated longitudinally extending slot portion extending through a side wall portion of the body member, the lower end of the slot portion terminating above the bottom of the body member and the top of the slot portion terminating at an intermediate portion of the body member whereby arrows longitudinally disposed in the body member may be removed point portion first from the slot portion adjacent the hips of a user, and the strap means may be circumposed about the body member for preventing accidental loss of arrows when the body member is removed from the users back.

A combined arrow quiver and carrying case assembly comprising an elongated tubular body member ineluding a transverse bottom and top closing opposite ends thereof, strap means on the body member for hanging the body member on the back of a user, and an elongated longitudinally extending slot portion extending through a side wall portion of the body member, the lower end of the slot portion terminating above the bottom of the body member and the top of the slot portion terminating at an intermediate portion of the body member whereby arrows longitudinally disposed in the body member may be removed point portion first from the slot portion adjacent the hips of a user, and the strap means may be circumposed about the body member for preventing accidental loss of arrows when the body member is removed from the users back, said case including rigging means for engagement with the strap means for disposing the body member on a persons back with the slot portion opening toward a persons right or left hand side facilitating use by right and left handed persons.

3. A combined arrow quiver and carrying case assembly comprising an elongated tubular body member including a transverse bottom and top closing opposite ends thereof, strap means on the body member for hanging the body mother on the back of a user, and an elongated longitudinally extending 'slot portion extending through a side wall portion of the body member, the lower end of the slot portion terminating above the bot tom of the body member and the top of the slot portion terminating at an intermediate portion of the body member whereby arrows longitudinally disposed in the body member may be removed point portion first from the slot portion adjacent the hips of a user, and the strap meansmay be circumposed about the body member for preventing accidental loss of arrows when the body memher is removed from the users back, said body member tapering from top to bottom and including a substantially elliptical cross section, the slot portion opening toward the minor axis of cross sectional portions passing therethrough, one side portion of the body member on opposite sides of the major axis of cross sections therethrough being juxtapositionable on the back of a user of the assembly.

4. A combined arrow quiver and carrying case assembly comprising an elongated tubular body member including a transverse bottom and top closing opposite ends thereof, strap means on the body member for hanging the body member on the back of a user, and an elongated longitudinally extending slot portion extending through a side wall portion of the body member, the lower end of the slot portion terminating above the bottom of the body member and the top of the slot portion terminating at an intermediate portion of the body member whereby arrows longitudinally disposed in the body member may be removed point portion first from the slot portion adjacent the hips of a user, and the strap means may be circumposed about the body member for preventing accidental loss of arrows when the body member is removed from the users back, the transverse bottom of the body member including an integral transverse partition element extending between opposed inner peripheral'side portions of the body member defining spaced compartments therein providing means for segregating different types of arrows.

5.
