Description

Dec. 28, 1948. 1.. B. RHOWMINE BIB AND TRAY COVER Filed March 25,1194? INVENTOR /5 Ka /m0 flaw/ flaw/ma? I ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 28, 1948 UNITED STATES *Manu la .41

3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to improvements in bib and tray covers.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a combined bib and tray cover for children occupying high chairs which protects the child effectively and also the tray and prevents the child from displacing the bib.
Second, to provide a combined bib and tray cover which can be quickly adjusted to the child in alignment to the tray and as quickly removed, removing therewith any debris that may have accumulated.
Third, to provide a structure having these advantages which is not likely to be displaced by the child.
Objects relating to details and economies of the invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined and pointed out in the claims.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a structure embodying the invention illustrated in connection with a child and high chair having a tray and as being adjusted thereto.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view with parts shown in front elevation and partially disassembled and extended to show structural details.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary rear elevational view. H In the accompanying drawing, I represents a high chair having a tray designated generally by the numeral 2. The figure of a child is shown partially by dotted lines at 3. My combined bib and tray cover comprises a body portion 4, a bib proper portion having a neck recess 5 extending 5 from the upper edge thereof and provided with a suitable binding 6 terminating in the ties l.
The body portion has opposed side recesses 8, the neck and side recesses forming shoulder flaps 9, the edges of which are connected by the elastic straps Ill to the side edges of the body portion below the arm recesses, thus providing arm openings designated by the numeral I I.
The lower end of the body portion is extended into an outwardly flaring tray cover portion I2 which is provided with a puckered or gathered edge conventionally shown at l3, this gathered edge having an elastic tape M secured thereto,
the gathered edge and tape providing a downwardly facing pocket 15 adapted to receive the V edges of a tray and to yieldingly embrace the tray.
The elastic strap or tape [6 is connected to the tape it adjacent the inner ends thereof as at H,
' this strap or ,tape It being engageable under the tray at its inner edge and coacting with the binding elastic M in holding the tray cover under tension and retaining it on the tray. In Fig. 2, the strap I6 is shown disconnected at one end, one outwardly flared edge 18 of the tray cover portion being extended in order to betterdisclose the general shape of the fabric.
One of the arm hole tapes in is disconnected at one end with one shoulder flap shown as in the flat or extended, the other being in its connected position.
With the parts thus arranged, the garment can be quickly adjusted to the child and to the tray and is retained with its upper surface in proper taut smooth condition. It is adapted to fit trays having rounded edges and also substantially square trays as illustrated. Desirably the combination bib and cover are formed of water-proof material such as, for example, the so-called oiled silk. However, the material may be very greatly varied. The structure is very economical to produce and is easily arranged on a child and on a tray and, as stated, is capable of a wide adaptation.
I have not illustrated or described certain modifications and adaptations Which I contemplate as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt the invention as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A combined bib and tray cover comprising a body portion and a tray cover portion formed integrally from a single flat piece of material, the cover portion being a laterally enlarged continuation of the body portion, the body portion having a central neck opening recess extending centrally from the upper edge thereof and opposed arm opening recesses extending from the side to the top edge thereof, the recesses providing shoulder flaps therebetween the outer top edges of which are connected to the side edges of the body portion just below said arm opening recesses by elastic tapes, the edge of the tray cover portion being gathered and provided with an elastic tape whereby the tray portion is provided with inturned edges constituting a pocket adapted to yieldably receive the edges of a tray, and an elastic tape extending between the rear edges of the tray cover portion to apply yielding stress thereto when it is engaged with a tray.
2. A combined bib and tray cover comprising a body portion and a tray cover portion formed integrally from a single flat piece of material, the
body portion having a central neck opening recess extending centrally from the upper edge thereof and opposed arm opening recesses extending from the side to the top edge thereof, the
recesses providing shoulder flaps therebetween 5 the outer top edges of which are connected to the side edges of the body portion just below said arm opening recesses by elastic tapes, the edge of the tray ver. o t on. being s hereda s pro d with an elastic;tape-Whereby the tigayxportion is 10 provided with inturned edges constituting a pocket adapted to yieldably receive the edges oi a tray.
3. A combined bib and tray cover comprising a body portion and a tray coyer po r tion formed 5 integrally, the body portionbeing providedwitb attaching means, the edge of;the traywovenporw tion being gathered and provided with an eIastic tape whereby the tray portion is providedwitlr- REFERENCES CITED The following references are oif record in the file of this patent:
