Description

15 through the metal UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEIoE.
J. CALHOUN, OF WOLCOTTSVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
CURTAIN-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 24,097, dated May 24, 1859'.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, J. F. CALHOUN, of vWolcottsville, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtainence marked thereon.
Figure l, is a front view of the rack showing the button in two positions. Fig. 2, is a side view of the same, also showing the button in two positions. Fig. 3, is a section late, and arrangement for effecting the tension on the cord.
My invention is an improvement in thai part of curtain fixtures designated the rack, which is screwed to the window frame and upon which is a slide for effecting the tightening of the cord which passes around a pulley on said rack and another upon the end of the curtain roller. Great variety of devices have been employed for this purpose; the object to be attained is simplicity,
durability, combined with cheapness and effectiveness, but with but few exceptions have any been introduced that would answer the desired end. With my little device I combine all these advantages and in order to fully explain its characteristics I will'proceed to describe its arrangement and operation.
The metal plate a-somewhat the shape of those commonly used-has an oblong slot I), placed centrally of the plate, through which passes a screw c, having a square head el, which lits loosely between the flanges e, on the inside of the plate a; A small washer f is placed over the screw on the front side of the plate and against this is placed an annular collar g, which proceeds out a short distance beyond the side of a pulley h, which turns on said collar. This pulley has an annular groove on its periphery similar to those in use over which passes the pulley cord, not shown in thedrawings. A button z', is then secured on the end of screw c,
which projects beyond the collar g, and the whole is complete and ready. for operation which is effected by slightly unscrewing theY button z', which loosens the screw and allows Y itto be raised or depressed in the slot according to the degree of tension necessary for the cord-it is then screwed up again and the parts are rigidly secured in the required position.
lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is,
The combination of tightening screw c, collar g, pulley h, and button i, for effecting the required tension on the cord, substantially in the manner and for the purposes hereinabove set forth.
J. F. CALHOUN.
