Description

Jan. 6, 1942. J. T. KIRKLAND ELECTRIC RAZOR Filed March 10, 1939 .ZJYYEHTCJ 1-1: JOSE PH T.
(J' IRKLIHND ATTORNEYS.
Patented Jan. 6, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in electric razors and has particular reference to a razor so constructed that the user may clip or cut in a straight line close to the nose or ears due to the peculiar shape of applicants construction.
A further object is to produce a device of, this character which is neat in appearance, economical to manufacture, and easy to manipulate.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of my device;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of Fig. 2, looking from the right of the drawing;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig.
The ordinary electric razor has a comparatively broad shaving area, and, therefore, it is impossible to clip around the ears and nose. I have, therefore, devised a razor wherein the casing is so shaped'that this object can be accomplished. I have also provided a cutting element wherein the teeth extend completely to the ends so that clipping can occur at any point along the length of the cutting edge.
In. the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the casing of my device, which casing has a chamfered surface 6 upon its underside and is also chamfered at 1 and 8 on its side surfaces.
This produces a verynarrow area upon the My device is particularly adaptable for use by barbers because of the time saving element in cutting the hair around the ears Where a straight line out can be effected by my apparatus. By utilizing a clipper of this type as the cutting means, the use of razors will be eliminated, and also the use of towels and the like.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a razor of the character described, a casing having one of the major surfaces thereof chamfered and also having its side faces chamfered forming a fiat reduced transverse end, a guard covering said end, a blade on the inside of the guard and having teeth extending from end to end thereof, and a spring between the blade and the flat end of the casing.
2. In a razor of the character described, a casing having one of the major surfaces thereof chamfered and also having its side faces chamfered forming a flat reduced transverse end, a guard covering said end, ,a blade on the inside of the guard and having teeth extending from end to end thereof, and a spring overlying the upper face ofthe casing and extending inwardly between the blade and the fiat end of adjacent the teeth of the blade.
3. In a razor of the character described, comprising a casing having one of its major surfaces chamfered and also having its side faces chamfered forming a fiat reduced transverse end, a guard looped atone edge to form a space bethe casing 40 tween said reduced transverse end andsaid edge,
one edge of said guard extending beyond the flat end and having teeth, a blade within said space and extending across said teeth, and a spring arranged on the wall of the straight major 4 surface and turned inwardly and engaging the pressure adjacent the edge near the teeth of the guard, which teeth are shown at l8 in Fig. 5.
inner face of the blade for forcing the same outwardly against the teeth. JOSEPH T. KIRKLAND.
