3 Claims.

My invention relates to a clipper blade, more particularly for use in connection with conventional barbers clippers, and the objects of my invention are:

First, to provide a clipper blade of this class which cooperates with the reciprocating blade of the clipper whereby the tendency of the barber to form ledges or clipper lines in the customers hair is reduced to a minimum;

Second, to provide a clipper blade of this class which accomplishes a very smooth, feathered clipper arrangement of the hair on the customers head by single cuts when clipping the same, thereby saving the barbers time which is ordinarily spent in smoothing and finishing the haircut with scissors and comb;

Third, to provide a clipper blade of this class wherein relatively short blade portions are alternately interposed between relatively long blade portions whereby the alternate length of the blade portions offset portions of the mass of hair in cooperative relation with the reciprocating clipper blade, thereby providing a feathered and finely stepped relation of the adjacent hairs relatively to each other;

Fourth, to provide a clipper blade of this class which does not pull or cause any discomfort to the customer having his hair cut thereby;

Fifth, to provide a clipper blade of this class which is arranged to readily replace conventional clipper blades now in use;

Sixth, to provide a novel clipper blade of this class;

Seventh, to provide a clipper blade of this class which is used in the conventional manner but which quickly produces relatively superior results with less time and effort expended, and

Eighth, to provide a novel clipper blade of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efl'icient in its action, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.

With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail, and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:

Figure 1 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of a conventional hair clipper with my clipper blade in connection therewith; Fig. 21 is a fragmentary top or plan view of a conventional hair clipper showing my clipper blade in connection therewith, and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional View taken from the line 33 of Fig. 2.

The stationary clipper blade member I constitutes the principal part and portions thereof of my clipper blade construction.

The reciprocating clipper blade member 2 and clipper handle member casing 3 are no part of my present invention.

The stationary clipper blade member I is secured on the clipper handle member casing 3 by means of the bolts la in substantially the conventional manner, as shown in Fig. l of the drawing. At the cutting edge of the clipper blade member I, I have provided alternately disposed long and short clipper blade portions. These long and short clipper blade portions lb and la are bevelled toward their upper sides, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The ends of the clipper blade portions lb are provided with bevelled portions le at their extending ends and the clipper blade portions it: are provided with bevelled portions Id at their extending ends.

It will be here noted that the end portions 2a of the reciprocating clipper blade member 2 are positioned backwardly a short distance from the extending ends and bevelled portions Id of the short clipper blade portions Ic, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing.

The clipper handle member casing 3 is substantially a conventional part.

The operation of my clipper blade is substantially as follows:

When the stationary clipper blade member I is being passed through a persons hair and the reciprocating clipper blade member 2 is in motion relatively with the clipper blade member I, the long and short blade portions lb and [0 of the clipper blade member i, in engagement with alternate portions of the mass of hair, tend to offset the relative longitudinal relation of the alternate portions of the hair While being cut by the reciprocating clipper blade member 2. The alternate length of the clipper blade portions lb and lo tend to hold the alternate portions of the hair at different lengths relatively with the reciprocating clipper blade member 2 whereby the mass of hair when out assumes a finely feathered appearance, and the hairs are arranged in finely spaced relation to each other at their extending ends.

Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and: arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a clipper blade of the class described, the combination with a conventional hair clipper having a reciprocating blade, of a stationary clipper blade member having straight spaced long and short clipper blade portions the long blade portions extending past the short blade portions at their extended ends, said short blade portions being alternately interposed between said long blade portions.

2. In a clipper blade of the class described, the combination with a conventional hair clipper having a reciprocating blade, of a stationary clipper blade member having spaced long and short clipper blade portions the long blade portions extending past the short blade portions at their extended ends, said short blade portions being alternately interposed between said long blade portions, the extending ends of said short blade portions positioned forwardly of the cutting edge of said reciprocating blade member.

3. In a clipper blade of the class described, the combination with a conventional hair clipper having a reciprocating blade, of a stationary clipper blade member having spaced long and short clipper blade portions the long blade portions extending'past the short blade portions at their extended ends, said short blade portions being alternately interposed between said long blade portions, the extending end of said short blade portions positioned forwardly of the cutting edge of said reciprocating blade member, said long and short cutting blade portions being bevelled at their extending ends.
