UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
WILLIAM H. BURCH AND JAMES E. OURTISS, OF OANANDAIGUA, N. Y.
lM PROVEMENT |N SLI PPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,594, dated December 10, 1878; application filed November 4, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM H. BURCH and JAMES E. OURTrss, of Oanandaigua, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful I111- provements in Slippers; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being 11 ad to the accompanyingdrawings, which form part of this specification.
Our invention relates to that class of slip pers designed to be worn inside of india-rub her boots, and is intended to provide such a form thereof as will cause the same to fit well about the foot of the wearer, especially as regards the heel, the result being to give an improved shape to the slipper, and to render the latter easy upon the foot, while there is no -tendency on its part to chafe the heel of the perspective, of the slipper as made.
The sole A constitutes only the bottom proper of the slipper, and is made of a single leather piece with the counter B, said counter having its lower body formed with the two formed to extend down to and are connected with the sole A. The rear portions of the quarters are connected to the counter only along the sides and top of the latter, while there is no seam or other connection securing the lower rear portions of said quarters to the counter. The triangular lateral extensions of said counter are respectively connected to the sides of the quarters, and to the rear portions of the sidge edges of the sole.
A slipper made as thus set forth is of form well adapted to fit about the wearers foot, and prevent the latter from becoming chafed thereby, especially at the heel.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The blank shown and described, consisting of the sole portion A, counter B, formed with triangular side extensions 1) b, all made of a single piece of material, substantially as set forth.
2. A slipper having the sole A, the counter B, provided with lateral extensions 1) I), made integral with the sole and united to the upper, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 2d day of November, 1878.
WILLIAM H. BURCH. JAMES E. OURTISS.
