Description

LVB. AMBROSE.
Sieve.
No. 210,481. Patented Dec. 3, 187'8'..
Fi g. ,a
gli? L UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
LYOURGUS E. AMBROSE, OF MASON CITY, ILLINOIS.
IM PROVEM ENT IN SIEVES.
Spcciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,481, dated December 3, 18,78; application filed August 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, LYoURGUs E. AMBRosE, of Mason City, in the county of Mason and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sieves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specilication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a flour and meal sieve, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, to which reference is made, and which fullyillustrates my invention, Figure l is a plan view of my improved sieve. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line .t x, Fig. I. Fig. 3 is a detailed view of apart thereof.
A represents the rim or body of the sieve, made slightly tapering, and having its lower edge turned inward to form the iange a. B represents the wire bottom, which rests upon around bead or shoulder, b, swaged up from a narrow rim, C. This rim or band C is fitted around the lower end of the body A, so that the wire bottom will be held between the round bead b and the ange a. The upper edge of the band C is then united to the rim or body A by swaging a concave-convex groove in both parts together, as shown at d.
The round bead b, upon which the wire bottom rests, prevents it from cutting ont, and should the wire-cloth give way by breaking, Sto., another bottomcan easily be putin by hammering out the upper swage,d, when the hoop or band C can be pulled off and a new wire bottom put in, the band returned to its place, and swaged, as before.
The lower band or hoop, O, may be secured to a wooden rim equally as well as to the tin body or'rim A.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a sieve, the hoop or band C, swaged to I form the round bead b, and having the wire bottom B resting thereon, in combination with the rim or body A, formed with the iiange a., and the two parts being united and held together by the swaged groove d in both, sub stantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LYCURGUS E. AMBROSE.
