Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CONTAINER James R. Bedell, Cuyahoga Falls,
to The B. F. Goodrich Company,
Ohio, assignor New York N. Y., a corporation of New York Application July 15, 1933, serial No. 680,599
3 Claims.
This invention relates to containers and especially to containers made of cardboard or similar exible The principal objects sheet material.
of the invention are to 5 provide simplicity of construction, neatness of appearance, and eicient protection of the articles to be packed.
Other objects will appear from the following description and the accompanying drawing.-
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the the container is formed article partly opened.
mank from whih view of the completed Fig. 3 is a central cross-sectional view of the device.
Referring to the drawing, the container is formed from a single sheet of ilexible material such as cardboard scored along lines 10, 11, 12,
13, 14 and 15 to form hinge lines denning a botthe opening and closing of the container and to prevent the entrance of dust each tray is provided with inturned anges 2 The ends of these ilanges which engage with each in assembled relation.
are formed with inter- To exclude dust at the corners, the sides 24, 25, 2'7 and 28 each are provided with a tab 37, and four quadrant shaped tabs 38'areformed at the end of the base 16.
To provide integral handle means, a pair of tabs 39, 40 are formed centrally of the tray sides 30, 33 and integral handles 41, 42 extend therefrom. The tabs are sco red at 43, 44, 45 and 46.
The blank is slit centrally along score lines 22 and 23 as at 47, 48, a distance equal to the width of the handles and the through by bending the handles are passed thereblank along lines 43, 44.
To provide integral locking means, a tab 49 having a notch 50 is formed within one of the handles and a T-shaped slit 51 is formed in the side 26 through which the tab may engage.
The entire blank may be cut and scored at a single press operation and by folding along the score lines and interlocking the corners the container may be assembled without the use o! glue or fastening devices.
'I'he device is especially useful as a container for dolls clothes. The dresses may be packed so as to extend across both trays and may be folded at the center when the tray is closed. The device provides an attractive container for the clothes which appeals to the child. When the trays are folded face to face the container is completely closed.
I claim:
1. A container formed of a single sheet of ilexible material comprising a pair of connected trays Ioldable face to face to provide a closed article, the sides of each tray being provided with integral inturned flanges to retain articles in place` when the container is opened, and readily separable locking means integral with the trays for holding them in separable closed relation.
2. A container formed oi a single sheet of flex# ible material and comprising a pair of connected trays foldable face to tace to provide a closed article, the sides of each tray being provided with integral inturned flanges to retain articles in place, when the container is opened, and handle means integral with the trays and outwardly folded to extend through slits in the trays.
3. A container formed of ible material and comprising a pair of connected trays foldable face to face to. provide a closed article, the sides of each tray being provided with integral inturned flanges to retain articles in place, handles integral with said flanges and outwardly folded to extend through slits in the sides of the trays, and locking means formed integrally with one of said handles and cooperating with a slit in the opposite tray.
