RAZOR BLADE OILER Leslie H. Coggins, Meriden, Conn.
Application April-2, 1932, Serial No. 602,675
' 2 crane.
This invention relates to safety razors and more particularly to a blade protecting shield containing an oil pad for receiving the head of a safety razor of the Gillette type, whereby rusting ofthe blade will be prevented and the keen edges preserved for a long period.
One object of this invention is to provide a device-of the above nature which is adapted to protect both edges of the blade during the time it is not in use, ,and which will avoid the necessity of taking therazor apart and drying the blade after shaving.
A further object is to provide a device of the above nature in which the razor-holding shield is arcuate in shape, and has in-turned edges adapted to fit behind the blade guard for permitting the head and blade of the razor to be @slipped longitudinally into position therein.
A further object is to provide a safety razor shield of the above nature, which will be simple in construction,- inexpensive to manufacture, easy to assemble and"manipulate, compact, ornamental in appearance, and very efficient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing, one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 represents a view in side elevation of a safety razor having the protecting shield installed thereon.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the same.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse sectional view of the razor head and attached shield, the view being taken along the line 4-4 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the invention.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 4 in tightened position.
Referring now to the drawing in which like ref erence numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 indicates a blade protecting shield, suitably constructed to fit upon the head of a safety razor of the Gillette type.
The shield 10 is preferably stamped and formed from sheet metal, and consists of an arcuate shaped body 11, slightly longer than the 7 length of the head 10a of a safety razor.
- edges The safety razor has the usual adjusting handle 19, guard plate 20, and arcuate shaped back plate 21. The razor blade 22 is formed of thin resilient steel, has two cutting edges 23 and 24, and is adapted to be clamped between the guard plate 20 and the back plate 21.
Operation When it is desired to assemble the protecting shield 10 upon the razor and blade, it will only be necessary to first draw the plates 20 and 21 tightly together by manipulation of the handle 19 to cause the blade to assume the curved shape shown in Fig. 6. The shield 10 may then be readily slipped longitudinally into position upon the razor head into the protecting position shown in Fig. 1.
The handle 19 will then be unscrewed, permitting the blade 22 to resume its normal flat condition and causing the shaving edges thereof to become embedded deeply in the oiled felt pad 18 of the shield 10. This expanding action of the blade will cause a film of oil to be squeezed out from the saturated felt pad 18, which film will adhere to the edges 23 and 24.
.cific disclosure but may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is:
1. In a protecting shield for a double-edged safety razor blade, a casing shaped to be'slipped longitudinally upon the head of the razor while the blade is'flexed a single rust proofing pad in said casing, the side edges of said casing bent inwardly to hold said pad therein, said blade when unfiexed being adapted to expand outwardly to bite into said pad.
2. In a safety razor blade oiler, a removable shield for inclosing the head and blade of a safety razor of the Gillette type, a single oil saturated pad secured in said shield, said pad having a concave inner surface, whereby when the razor blade n said pad, said razor being inserted in said shield while the blade is in a curved flexed condition.
