" isrnIKnar ATE ASSEMBLY.-
f "Application filed June ,1,
J This inventionrelates generally to striker plate rassemblies and refersmore particularly .tothose designed for use in vehicle body constructions,
One of the essential objects'ot the inven- V tionis to provide an assembly of this type in. which a plurality of striker 'plates'are held in assembled position by a common securing means vz Another object is to provide a strong and durable structure that is simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
' lVith these and other objects in View, the
invention resides in certain novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. a V 1 f In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1' is a fragmentary side elevation of a door jamb embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevation of the door jamb.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the tragments of two doors at dotted lines.
Referring now to the jamb o1": a' vehicle body doortype. As shown, this jambis box like in form andcomprises the upright channel member 2 and'the cooperatingmetal strip 3. Preferably, this strip is wider than the base 4: of the channel member 2 and is embraced byreturn-bent portions at" of laterally extending flanges 5 at the jinner edges of the channel member. Thus these flanges 5 v con- 'stitute abutments for the doors 6 and '4 irespectively when in closed position.
As shown in Figure 3, the side walls'8 and I '9 respectively of the channel member are provided withtransversely extending inwardly embossed or depressed port-ionsf 10 and 11 respectively which receive suitable striker plates 12 and 13 respectively. ;In the present instance thesedepressed portions 10 and 11 are channel-shape in form and have,
curved rear walls 10 andll respectively that connect into the lateral flanges 5, while each striker plate is a metalfcastingand has two integral steps 14 and 15 respectively that are adapted to be engaged by the locking bolts. 17 and 18 carried by the respective doors 6 and 7. To facilitate theassembly operation, the bases of these striker plates drawing, .1 is a door of the sedanor 'iour "have laterally projections 19 a1id 20 respectively that extend through alignedjopenings 21 and a 22 in the side walls 3 and9 irespectivelyof the As shown in l igui'efi these lugs 19 and 20 preferably abut, and areiengag-edby a suitablescrewf 23 whichaeillec-tively holds the strikenplates inpositio n'. Thug-at single securing element will'sulfice to holdthe Ipantsxtogether.
view of this arrangement the assembly-operation is s mphfied with a material saving in time, labor: and material',ehence the cost of manufacturing such assemblies is corre spondingly reduced: on I \Vhile it is believed that from the forego; ing description, the nature and advantage otmy inventionwill be readily apparent, I
desire tohave it understood that I do not limitmyselfto what 1 1161 6111 shown and described and that such changes'may be rescope of what is claimed. M I
i 'What I claim as myinvention is :1
V 1. Aistrikerfplate ,assemblycomp'rising a 1 son .jamb having recesses'in two sides thereot,
striker plates insaid recesses, and a com mon securing means for said striker plates. v
2. A striker plate assemblycomprising a amb including a channel member having transversely extending depressed, portions in the opposite side walls thereot'striker plates in said depressed portions, and a e-common, i
securing means for said-striker plates. 7 3. A striker plate assemblycomprising a amb having inwardly depressed portions atopposite sides thereof, striker platesin said depressed portions, and securing meansfor sa d striker'plates including an element extending transversely of both of said striker plates;
4:; jamb having aligned openingsin-the sides thereof, striker plates on the sides thereof having'projections entering said recesses, and securing means for said" striker plates including an element engaging (said projec-' trons. V j a e 1 5'. A striker plateassembly comprising a jamb having a channel-shaped member provided with laterally extending flanges, the
A striker plate assembly comprising a being provided with channel-shaped recesses, r
the inner end wall'sof the channel recesses connecting into the lateral flanges aforesaid,
7:) sorted to when desired asvfall 'withinthef i 105, side walls of said channel-shaped member jamb having depressed portions in the side walls thereof, striker plates in said depressed portions having laterally extending projections, and securing means for said striker plates comprising an element extending freely through one of said projections and threadedly engaging the other of said projections. g
7 A striker plate assembly comprising a jamb having openings in two sides thereof, striker plates onsaid sides and having lateral projections in said openings, and securing means for said striker plates including an element extending transversely of said jamb and extending longitudinally of said lateral projections. 1
8. A striker plate assembly comprising a jamb having openings in two sides thereof, striker plates on said sides and having lateral projections in said openings, and securing means for said striker plates including an element extending freely through the lateral projection of one of said striker plates and threadedly engaging the lateral projec tion of the other of said striker plates.
9. A striker plate assembly comprising a jamb, striker plates upon two sides of said jamb and means for securing said strikerplates to said sides of said jamb, including adjustable element extending transversely of said jamb and said striker plates.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
