GARMENT-SUPPORTING BRACKET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HIRAM HOLDEN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Manchester, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporting Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to improvements in brackets or supports for articles of apparel, and the invention aims to provide a construction which may be economically manufactured and readily attached to any suitable support, and on which articles may be conveniently hung either with or without the use of garment hangers, or in both ways if desired, and the invention includes the novel construction hereinafter described and defined in the appended claim.

In order that my invention may be better understood, I have appended hereto drawings illustrative thereof, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bracket.

Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a modification.

Referring by reference characters to this drawing, it will be seen that my improved bracket comprises a. single piece of wire, indicated at 1 which is bent to form a series of upstanding loops 1, any number of which may be provided according to the length of the bracket desired, and the number of articles to be supported therefrom. These loops,as shown, are bent so as to have their upper ends deflected alternately in opposite directions. Preferably the bracket is provided with an upper horizontal member'l which is formed from the same piece of wire by bending the same backwardly, so as to overlie the lower member 1 in the same vertical plane. f

Means are provided for the attachment of the bracket to a suitable support, such for instance as a wall, and such means, in the form shown in Fig. 1, consists in providing a vertical portion of the wire 1 which joins the base portion by one or more bends forming an eye or eyes 1 for the section of attaching screw, the upper end of the member 1 being likewise bent to form an eye 1 through which the extremity of the portion 1 is passed, said extremity being threaded as indicated at 1 and pointed to enable it to be readily screwed into the support. 7

In the form shown in Fig. 2 I substitute for said attaching means a plate member 2 to which the ends of the wire members are suitably secured through the openings 2 for the attaching screws.

My improved bracket is especially useful in places of restricted space, as itenables a considerable number of articles of dilferent kinds to be hung therefrom. For example, coats and like articles carried by the customary coat hangers may be readily suspended from the bracket by engaging the hooks with the U-shaped bends, which will v keep the hangers properly spaced, while at the same time the oppositely bent upstandlng portions will be separated sufiiciently far apart and project laterally to each side to such an extent as to readily enable coats and hats to be hung thereon without re-' quiring' the use of hangers,.where this is desired, and enabling also hats to be hung on the said inclined portions even if the bracket is completely filled with garments supported by hanger Preferably I leave a straight portion of wire between the supporting means and the first bend, as indicated at 1 upon which hangers not supplied with garments may be hung until it is desired to use the same.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is prising upper and lower wire members lying in the same vertical plane, said lowermember being bent to form a plurality of I upstanding loops, said loops having their upper ends alternately deflected in opposite directions out of said plane, and means for connecting said members to a suitable sup-.
