Description

J. H. STORTZ.
DISPLAY BOX.
APPLICATION men AUG-25, 1914.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 5, ram.
Application filed August 25, 1914. Serial No. 858,448.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that L'Jorm H. S'roR'rz, a
' citizen of the United States, and a resident along creased lines thereof.
of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in DisplayBoXes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to novel improvements in pasteboard boxes adapted to be formed from a single blank by folding it The chief object of my improvements is to cut or stamp and crease a piece of pasteboard or the like in such a manner as to permit of its being folded into a box for holding an article so that it could be displayed and examined without becoming displaced, or removed for inspection and replaced, and the box could also be securely covered for shipping or storing the article. With the above and other related objects in view, this invention comprises the construction, formation and arrangement .hereinafter described, a preferred form of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and embraced within the scope of the appended claims.
In the said drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of the prepared blank; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the box formed from the blank shown in Fig. 1 and in position for.
displaying'the contents thereof; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the box closed, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the lines along which the blank shown in Fig. 1 is folded to convert it into the display box shown in Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing for a detail description of my invention, 1 represents a blank prepared by stamping and scoring or creasing a piece of pasteboard or kindred material, 2 represents the back, 3, 4:, 5 and 6 represent thewalls or sides, 7 represents the front, and 8 the .cover.
The walls or sides 3 and 4 are provided with flaps 9 and 10." The front 7 is provided with a wall or side 11 opposite the wall 5 and a flap 12 is extended from said wall 11.
The walls or'sides are formed by creasing the blank along parallel lines, and when folded along said lines, a receptacle is formed as s own in Fig. 4 by folding the front 7 over the flaps 9 and 10 and tucking the flap 12 under said flaps 9 and 10 which receptacle is thus made to consist of the back 2, front 7 and walls or sides 3, 4
6 and 11.
To display the contents-of the receptacle, the front is provided with openings, which as shown are adapted to display a necktie N, and to prevent its displacement, the flap 9 is recessed as at 13. The receptacle can be covered by folding the cover 8 over the front 7, which cover is provided with tongues 14 adapted to be inserted within the slits 15 of the front, whereby the box is securely closed for storing or shipping the article.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
1. A display box, including a back having inwardly folding end flaps to retain the contents of the box in position, a front wall having a viewing opening therein, said front wall having a longitudinal infolding flap, said infolding flap of the front being received between the flaps of the back and the back to lock the front with the back, and a closure-wall overlying said front wall, all in a single piece.
2. A display box, including a back having inwardly folding'end' flaps to retain the contents of the box, one of said end flaps being adapted to suspend the contained objects, a front wall having a viewing open-
