To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OI-IN'M.'PEOPLES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Pillows, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawmgs.

This invention relates to pillows whereby a sleepers head may be kept cool and insomnia or headaches thus avoided.

The invention consists in the provision of a suitable frame carrying the. support for the sleepers head. This support may be of any suitable construction and ,ofany desired material such as fabric, wire or the like or a combinationof these or similar materials, while' the frame is of a construction to permit of the same being placed in a bed, hammock or the like so that it will in no way interfere with the comfort of the sleeper.

An object of the invention is to provide a support which may be readily removed from the frame for laundrying purposes and which may be adjusted readily and easily to raise or lower the sleepers head.

Another object of theinvention resides in the provision of means whereby the support may be yieldably carried by the frame to provide for the sleepers comfort.

A further object is to provide an article of this character which may be. disassembled and compactly arranged for transportation purposes.

WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel fea tures of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is'a perspective of the-improved pillow; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view showing parts dismounted and' arranged for transportation; and Fig. at is a detail view illustrating a slightly modified form of the invention.

Referring by numerals to the drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 and 2 designate a pair of similarly constructed end bars which are preferably of elongated rectangular shape and which are formed from any de sired material. Each of these bars is pro vided upon one edge intermediate its ends with a mortise to receive the tenon at opposite ends of a spacing bar 3 which is of any suitable length and acts to hold the end bars in rigid spaced relation, pins or other suitable fastening elements 4; being passed through the bars 1 and 2 and the tenons of the spacing bar to lock the bars together, these pins being readily removable, however, to permit of disassembling of the bars so that the same may be packed for transportation.

Each of the end bars 1 and 2 has secured thereto adjacent its ends, uprights or posts 5, the same preferably being so connected with the end bars as to permit of their ready removal therefrom to permit of the device being packed in a compact mass. These uprights or posts are of any suitable height and two of the same carried by one of the end bars are provided at their upper ends with removable headed pins or tenons 6, while the two of the other end bar are provided with hooks 7. A support of elongated rectangular shape is provided which is indicated at 8 and is formed from any desired material such as fabric, wire or a combination of wire and fabric or of any other suitable material. This support is provided at one end, near its longitudinal edges with eyelets 9 which are adapted to be passed over the pins or tenons 6 to secure this end of the support to the uprights of one of the end bars. Adjacent its opposite end this support has formed along its longitudinal edge,

a plurality of spaced eyelets 10, any alined pair of which are adapted for engagement with the hooks 7 to secure the opposite end of the support to the uprights of the other end bar.

From the construction described it will be noted that the support may be readily removed from the uprights for laundrying or cleaning purposes and. that the frame may be readily taken apart to faciliate its transportation. It will also be apparent that by engaging any pair of the eyelets with the hooks 7, the height of the support between the pairs of end bars may be varied so as to provide for the comfort of a person using the device. By the provision of a pair of end bars connected by a spacing bar, as set forth, it will be noted that the frame will in no way interfere with the comfort of the sleeper when the device isin use.

If desired, helical contractile springs 11 may be provided to be interposed between the support and either pair of end bars or at each end of the support and between each pair of end bars to permit of yielding of the support when a persons head is resting thereon. These springs may be provided with'hooks at opposite ends, one of which is adapted for engagement witheither the pins 6 or hooks 7 whiie the other is adapted for engagement with either the eyelets 9 or any one of the eyelets 10 to connect the support with the uprights.

It will be apparent that various minor changes in the details of construction and arrangements of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention and while I have herein shown and described certain specific embodiments 01' my invention, I do not wish to be limited thereto except for such limitations as the claims may import.

I claim 1. A pillow of the character described comprising end bars, a spacing bar for connecting said end bars and holding the same in rigid spaced relation, said connecting bar being arranged intermediate the ends of the end bars uprights carried adjacent the ends of each of said end bars, removable headed pins carried adjacent the upper Bopies of this patent may be obtained for ends of the uprights of one end bar, hooks carried adjacent the upper ends of the uprights of the other end bar, a support, eyelets secured to said support adjacent one end and near its longitudinal edges for engagement with the pins of the first mentioned uprights, other eyelets secured to said support near its opposite end and in spaced relation along its longitudinal edges, said eyelets being adapted for engagement with the hooks of the last mentioned uprights for the purpose set forth.

2. A pillow of the character described comprising a frame, said frame including end bars provided substantially midway their lengths with openings, a spacing bar having its end portions removably insertible within the openings of the end bars, removable pins disposed through the end bars and the end portions of the spacing bar for holding said end bars and spacing bar in assembled relation, uprights carried by the end bars, and a head support engageable with the uprights.
