To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat I, MELVIN L. MUNGER, a
citizen of the United States, residing atBennet, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Parcel-Post Conveyers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in receptacles for shipping materials by parcels post, and aims to provide a device of this character which is strong and durable, and at the same time simple in manufacture.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a receptacle especially adapted for the transportation of perishable articles.
Referring to the drawings; Figure 1 is a side elevation of the receptacle; Fig. 2 is a sectional-view of the cover thereof;- Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the receptacle; and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Referring more specifically to the drawings,.the reference character 1 designates the receptacle which is preferably formed of corrugated metal and 2 designates the bottom thereof. The receptacle is preferably cylindrical in cross section, and the bottom 2 is secured in one end thereof by means of the double seam 3 shown M3 in Fig. 3.
The bottom 2 comprises a disk of metal which is corrugated as shown at 4 in Fig. 4, and secured to the top face ofsaid bottom are transverse bracing rods 5 and 6, these braces being secured at their ends by means of riyets or the like 7. An upper edge 9 of the receptacle 1 is bent inwardly as at 10, and depending from the flange 10 is a ring 11 which is secured to the inner edge of the flange 10 by means of a seam 12 similar to the double seam 3 heretofore described. The lower edge of the ring 11 is flanged as at 13, and secured to said flange by means of a double seam is a receptacle 14 preferably formed of corrugated metal and of smaller diameter than the receptacle 1,
the receptacle 14 being arranged concentrically of said receptacle to provide a space 15 on the sides and bottom thereof.
The outer receptacle 1"is provided with a screw-threaded opening 16 in which is received a plug 17 and by removlng said plug Specification of Letters Patent.

ed the same as the bottom 2 of the outer receptacle 1, and is secured to the said inner receptacle by means of a double seam 18.
The receptacles 1 and 14 are each prov ded with a cover 19 and 20 respectively, and owing to the fact that both said covers are of the same construction it-will only be necessary to describe one of them. The cover comprises a bottom plate 21 the edge of which is bent upwardly as at 22 and out wardly as at 23 to form an annular flange. The upper face of the bottom plate 21 is provided with a plurality of transverse braces 24 which are secured in place by means of rivets 25, and at their point of intersection they are spaced from the bottom plate by means of acork disk 26.
The top of the cover comprises a sheet metal plate 27 having its edge bent around the flange 23 to form an internal chamber 29 from which the air may be exhausted to form a vacuum space by removing the plug 30. The upper plate 27 is provided with a handleBl by which the same may be removed from the receptacle 14.
p In the upper cover 32 the top plate is extended as at 33 to form a flange which overlies the flange 10 of the receptacle 1, and below the extended portion 33 and secured to the outer face of the receptacle 1 are hooks 34 to receive the rings 34 by means of which the cover may be secured to the receptacle 1.
The outer receptacle is braced by means of longitudinal undulated wires 37 which are rigidly secured to the inner face thereof and are spaced equi-distantly around the circumference thereof as shown in Fig. 4, and the inner receptacle is likewise braced by means of the undulated wires 38 which are rigidly secured at equi-distantly spaced intervals around the outer circumference thereof.
It will be seen-that by placing the cover for the inner receptacle in place with its flange in engagement with the flange 13, and then positioning the cover for tlie outer receptacle in place and securing the same, the
cover for the inner receptacle is maintained protect by Letters 'drical vessel constructed of corrugated metal and having an inturned flange at the upper end thereof, a ring depending from said flange and secured thereto, an inner cylindrical vessel depending from said ring and secured thereto, a plurality of undulated re inforcing bars fitting closely against the inner surface of the outer vessel, a plurality of undulated reinforcing bars fitting closely against the outer surface of the inner vessel, and closures forsaid Vessels, substantially as set forth 2. A receptacle comprising an outer cylindrical vessel constructed of corrugated metal and having an inturned flange at the upper end thereof, a ring depending from said flange, an inner cylindrical vessel depending from said ring, a pluralityof undulated re inforcing bars fitting the inner surface of the outer vessel, a plurality of undulated reinforcing bars fitting the outer surface of the inner vessel, bottoms for said inner and outer vessels, truss rods bracing said bottoms respectively, and closures for the vessels, substantially as set forth,
