" TED STATES ANTOINE na: Loudness PANET, or roirbn'ro, onmmqcmaua COMBINED SLEEPING-BAG AND SHELTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINE on Lorai- NIERE PANET, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario,
Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Sleeping- Bags and Shelters, of which the following is the specification. I
My invention relates to improvements in combined sleeping bags and shelters and the object of the invention is to provide a shel h ter formed integral with the sleeping bag and readily portable therewith and which may be qu ckly and easily set up whenever required over the ba and means for supporting the center or foldable portion of the extension centrally above the bagto form va shelter as herein- 7 after more particularly explained by the following specification.
' Figure 1, is'a erspective view of my bag and shelter laid out flat. Fig. 2, is a perspective view showing the application of my combined bag and shelter. 3, is a cross sectional view showing the bag laid out flat in full lines and the position in which itis used b dotted lines.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding arts in each figure.
1 indicates a sleeping ag proper provided with the usual mouth 2 and laced openin 3.
t indicates a haversack secured in the mouth of the bag and rovided with a closing flap 5. The bag w en filled with clothing or other suitable material serves as a pillow for the sleeper.
6 indicates an extension which may be formed integral with the bottom of the ba or secured thereto along one edge thereo The center portion of the extension 2 is rovided with a longitudinal hem 7 through which a cord 8 extends.
10 indicates a flap secured'to the opposite Specification of Letters Patent.
.able securing means 11.
12 and 13 indicate crossed stakes which when in use and it consists essentially o a sleeping bag pro-" edge of the bottom of the sleeping bag and provided with dome fasteners or other suit are driven into the ound and connected together at 15. Although I have shown cross 'stakes it will, of course, be under stood that cross rifles might be used in place thereof.
Patented Aug. 22, 1916.
Application filed September 27, 1915. Serial No. 52,897.
'When it isdesired to use the shelter all that it is necessary to do is to insert theifliver ends of the cord to suitable pegs 17.
e free end of the extension is then secured by the dome fasteners 11 to the flap 10 thereby completingthe shelter. The extension 6 may be formed of any suitable water proof material such as water proof silk and such as' will be light, strong and durable.
In order ,to prevent a draft assing through the shelterl utilize the closing flap ofthe haversack which is carried to close the end of the shelter and secured by suitable means to the extension piece 6 as indi- 'cated by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
What I claim as my invention is:
. 1. In a sleeping bag, the combination with the bag body having a bag-like portion extendin from the lower edge of the mouth of the bag body, a fabric portion extending from one longitudinal edge of the bag body,
means for supporting the fabric extension in an inverted V-form over the bag body, means for detachably securing the outer free end of the fabric portion to the opposite longitudinal edge of the bag body, and a flap normally forming a cover for the bag extensionand adapted to be secured to the inverted V fabric portion when desired.
2. In a sleeping bag, the combination with the bag body havin a bag-like portion secured to the upper ace and extending from the lower edge of the mouth of the bag body, a fabric portion extending from one longitudinal edge of the bag body, means for supporting the fabric portion in an inverted V form over the bag body, means for bag-like portidn for Sim I. gma a z datachably assuring the outer frecoi the tion and a.
