Be it known that I, CHARLES H. STONE- BRIDGE, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blanket-Rolls, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

rI`his invention relates to blanket rolls or devices of this class used for outdoor sleeping by soldiers, campers and others, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this class with means for detachably connecting a plurality of blankets with the outer or waterproof portion of the device and for holding said blankets in connection therewith in any position; a further object is to provide a device of this class which is reversible; and a still further object of the invent-ion is to provide a means whereby two of the devices named may be detachably secured together and form a double blanket roll.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an inside view of my improved blanket roll showing the same in an extended or open position;

My improved blanket roll comprises an outer oblong and rectangular body 10 preferably composed of heavy waterproof canvas, said body being provided with a head end portion 11, a foot end portion 12 and parallel sides 13 and 14. rIhe foot end 12 and the side 14 are provided with inwardly folded flaps 15, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 which are stitched together as shown at 16 and 17 in said figure to form two parallel pockets 18 and 19 which extend the full lengthof said foot end l2 and the side 14, and the inner member of each of said pockets is provided at spaced intervals with eyelets 2O and 2l.

The side 13 is provided with an inwardly folded flap member 22 stitched to the body 10 as shown at 23 and 24 to form an outer portion 25 of two thicknesses of material provided at spaced intervals with eyelets 26 and an inner pocket member 27, the inner part of which is provided with eyelets 28 spaced to correspond with t-he spacing of the eyelets 26 in the outer portion 25, and this construction is clearly shown in Fig. 4.

The head end 11 of the body 10 is provided on the inner side thereof with a strip of canvas 29 secured to said end by stitching as shown at 30 to form a pocket 31, the inner member of which is provided at spaced intervals with eyelets' 32 as clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing.

The body 10 is foldable centrally thereof as indicated by the folding line 33 in Fig. 1 to bring the same into the position shown in Fig. 2, or said body is divided by the line 33 into two similar` side portions 34 and 35 foldable one upon another. Secured to one of the eyelets 2O in the foot end 12 of the body and on the side portion 35 thereof as shown at 36 is a rope 37, which is passed through the pocket 18, and at intervals is tied to form loops 38 which are passed. outwardly through the eyelets 20, as clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawing, and this rope 37 eX- tends from the point 36 to the point 39 at the side 14 of the body as shown in Fig. 4.

In connecting the separate side portions 34 and 35 as shown in Fig. 2, the loops 38 are passed through the eyelets 20 in the foot end 12 of the side portion 34 and through the eyelets 26 in the side 13 of the body, and in this operation of connecting the separate side portions 34 and 35, the loop 40 at one end of the rope 37 as shown at 36 is passed through the neXt adjacent loop 41 and so on throughout the full length of said rope in the usual manner. This method of connecting the separate side parts 34 and 35 is old and well known in this class of devices.

In the drawing I have shown at 42 two blankets, the foot end portions of which are secured together by eyelets 43 spaced to correspond with the eyelets 21 in the body 10 and the opposite side portions are secured together by eyelets 44 which are also spaced to correspond with the eyelets 21 in the side 14 of the body and the eyelets 28 in the side 13 of the body.

1n attaching the blankets 42 to the inner face of the body a rope 45 is secured at 46 to said body and passes through the pocket 27 in the side 13 of the body, through the pocket 19 in the foot end 12 and the side 14 of the body to the point 47 in the Yside 14 as shown in Big. l, and said rope is provided at spaced intervals with loops 48 which pass through the eyelets 28 in the side 13 of the body, the eyelets 44 in the corresponding side of the blankets, the eyelets 21 in the foot end 12 of the body andthe eyelets43 on the corresponding end ofthe blankets through the eyelets 21 in the side 14 of the body and the eyelets 44 in the corresponding side of the blankets. These loops 48 are interlocked in theA manner of the interlocking of the loops 38, `and in this Way the separate blankets 42 are secured to the inner face of the body 1 0. y

I also preferably secure the blankets 42 to thebody 10 alongthe folding line 33 at predetermined intervals as shown at 4 9 in Fig. 1 to yhold said blankets always in proper position, and in touch with the body 10.

The side edges of the blankets 42 are provided with inwardly directed pocket naps 50 secured to said blankets by a line of stitching as shown at 51, and the foot end portion of said blankets is provided with a corresponding inwardly directed pocket flap stitched to said blankets as shown at 53, 1n Fig. l. The flaps 50 and 52 are designed to prevent the entrance of air into the device when in its closed position and regardless of which side portions 34-35 is at the bottom, one of the flaps 5() or one side portion of the vflap 52 will drop into position to ac complish the desiredv result, or to close up the opening, if any, at the side and foot end portions of the device.

I also preferably employ in connection with the head end 11 of the body 10, a hood member 54 which is provided with a-plu rality of eyelets `.55 v spaced to correspond `with the eyelets 26. The width of the hood member 54 is equal to one-half the width'of'the body 10, or approximately thewidth of one of the side portions 34-35, and in attaching the same to the head end 11, 1 employ ropes 5 6 which are looped in the manner of the ropes 37 and 45, and passthrough the eyelets 2 6 and 55 and secured inthe manner of the loops 38 and48,7 The free edges'of the hood member 54are `provided with straps 57 and the body 10 is provided withI corresponding straps 5 8 which may be knotted or tied with the straps 57 to hold the hood member 54 in place. v l l It` will be understoodthat the hood member 54 may be connected with either of the side portions 34-35 depending upon which Yof said side portions are directed downwardly, or is on bottom, the purpose of utilizing either of the side portions 34-35 is to keep the cent-ral or folded portion of the device directed outwardly when said device is used in a tent or to direct said portion at the side of the greatest exposure as will be evident to all those accustomed to the use of devices of this class. 1t will also be understood that two of the devices such as shown in Fig. 1 may be placed one upon another and secured together by the loops 38 for producing a double blanket roll, or one suitable ffor use by two sleepers.

y By .my improved vmethod of detachably Aconnecting the blankets 42 with the body 10, l. produce 'a blanket which is in all respects sanitary by reason of the fact that the same may be opened into the position shown in Fig. 1 for airing and 'if necessary the Vsame may be placed in the openbn damp or moist ground, and even on snowwitliout in any way affecting the blankets 42, and the separate parts may be connected as indicated in Fig. 2, in which position of the device the user may enter the same. 1t will be understood that any number of blankets may be employed in connection with the body 10, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made, 'within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what 1 claim as nei'v 'and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. 1n a device of the class described, a body portion comprising parallel sides, a foot end and a head'end, the sides and foot end of the body portion being provided with spaced eyelets, said body portion being adapted to be. folded centrally vthereof into two similar side portions, attaching devices connected with 'theeyelets in one of said side portions l and adapted yto be passed through'the eyelets in the other side portion to detachably secure saidside portions together, means for detachably connecting the sides and foot end of a blanket with the sides and foot yend of the body portion, means for detachably connectingthe hood nieinberwith y 'the eyelets in the other side portion to d cta'chably secure said side portions together` a blanket theopposite sides and one end portion of which are provided with spaced eyelets, means connected with the sides and foot end of the body portion and passed through the eyelets in said blanket for detachably connecting the same with said body portion, and means for connecting said blanket with the body portion centrally and longitudinally thereof.

3. In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising parallel sides, a foot end and a head end, the sides and foot end of the body portion being provided with spaced eyelets, said body portion being adapted to be folded centrally thereof into two similar side portions, attaching devices connected with the eyelets in one of said side portions and adapted to be passed through the eyelets in the other side portion to detachably secure said side portions together, a blanket the opposite sides and one end portion of which are provided with spaced eyelets, means connected with the sides and foot end of the body portion and passed through the eyelets in said blanket for detachably connecting the same with said body portion, means for connecting said blanket with the body portion centrally and longitudinally thereof, and inwardly directed pocket flaps connected with the opposite sides and one end of said blanket.

In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising parallel sides, a foot end and a head end, the sides and foot end of the body portion being provided with spaced eyelets, said body portion being adapted to be folded centrally thereof into two similar side portions,'attaching devices connected with the eyelets in one of said side portions and adapted to be passed through the eyelets in the other side portion to detachably secure said side portions together, a blanket the opposite sides and one end portion of which are provided with spaced eyelets, means connected with the sides and fo'ot end of the body portion and passed through the eyelets in said blanket for detachably connecting the same with said body portion, means for connecting said blanket with the body portion centrally and longitudinally thereof, inwardly directed pocket flaps connected with the opposite sides and one end of said blanket, and means for detachably connecting a hood member with the head end of one of the side portions.

5. In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising sides, a foot end and a head end, two pockets formed in the foot end and one side portion of the body and extending the full length thereof, eyelets formed in the inner members of said pockets at spaced intervals, cords secured in said pockets and provided at spaced intervals with loops which are passed through the-eyelets therein, the other side of the body being provided with a pocket extending the full length thereof, eyelets formed in the inner side of said pocket at spaced intervals, and said side of the body being provided outwardly of said pocket with eyelets spaced to correspond with the last named eyelets and the head end of the body being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets.

In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising parallel sides, a foot end and a head end, the foot end and one side of the body being provided with a pocket which extends the full length thereof, eyelets formed in the inner member of said pocket at spaced intervals, an attaching cord or rope placed in said pocket and provided at spaced intervals with loops which pass through a plurality of said eyelets, the edge portion of the other side of the body being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets, the sides and foot end of the body being provided with a pocket inwardly of said first named pocket, and the eyelets at the last named side of the body, the inner member of said last named pocket being provided with spaced eyelets, cords or ropes placed in said pocket and provided at intervals' with loops which pass through said eyelets and a blanket the opposite sides and one end of which are provided with spaced eyelets adapted to receive the loops .in the last named cord Or rope.

7. In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising parallel sides, a foot end and a head end, the foot end and one side of the body being provided with a pocket which extends the full length thereof, eyelets formed in the inner member of said pocket at spaced intervals, an attaching cord or rope placed in said pocket and provided at spaced intervals with loops which pass through a plurality of said eyelets, the edge portion of the other side of the body being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets, the sides and foot end of the body being provided with a pocket inwardly of said first named pocket and the eyelets at the last named side of the body, the inner member of said last named pocket being provided with spaced eyelets, cords or ropes placed in said pocket and provided at intervals with loops which pass through said eyelets and a blanket the opposite sides and one end of which are provided with spaced eyelets adapted to receive the loops in the last named cord or rope, the said sides and end of the blanket being prolvided inwardly of said eyeletsll with pocket flaps.

8. In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising parallel sides, a foot end and a head end, the foot end and one side of the body being provided with a pocket which extends the full length thereof, eyelets formed in the inner member of said pocket at spaced intervals, an attaching cord or rope placed in said pocket and provided at splaced intervals lwith loops which pass through a plurality of said eyelets, the edge portion of the other side of the body being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets, the sides and foot end ,of the body being provided with a pocket in.- Wardly of said first named pocket and the eyelets at the last named side of the body, the inner member of said last named pocket being provided with spaced eyelets, cords or ropes placed in said pocket and provided at intervals with loops 'which pass through said eyelets and a blanket theopposite sides and one end of which are provided With Vspaced eyelets adapted to receive the loops in the last named cord or rope, the said sides and end of the blanket being provided inwardly of said eyelets With pocket flaps, the head end of the body being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets, and means for detaclrably connecting a hood member with said eyelets.

9. In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising opposite sides, a oot end and a head end, meansfor detachably connecting the sides and foot end of the body, ineansfor detachably connecting the sides and one end of a blanket to the sides and Afoot end of said body, and the sides and one end ofthe @blanket being provided With inwardly directed pocket iiaps.

10. In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising opposite sides, a foot end and a head end, means for detachably connecting the sidesand foot end of the body, means for detachably connecting the sides and one end of a `blanket to the sides and foot end of said body, the sides and one end of the blanket being provided with inwardly directed pocket naps, and means for detachably connecting a hood member With the head end of `the body.

11. In a device of the class described, `a body portion comprising opposite sides, a foot end and a head end, means for detachably connecting the sides and OOt end of .the body throughout the full length of said sides and end, and means for detachably connecting the sides and one end of a blanket to the sides and foot end of said body throughout the full length of said sides and end.

In a device of the class described, a body portion comprising parallel sides, a foot end and a head end, the sides and foot end of the body portion being provided with a plurality of spaced eyelets, a blanket the opposite k,Sides and one end of which are provided vvith a plurality of correspondingly spaced eyelets, and means passed through the eyelets in said sides and foot end of the body portion and through the eyelets in said blanket for securing said blanket to said body portion throughout the full length of said sides and end.
