Description
, UN T STATES ENT nman.,
SLEEPING-BAG.
To aZZ whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, MABEL LAVINIA STEvENsoN, a subject of the King of England, residin at North Vancouver, in the Province of Canada, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Sleeping-Bags, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawgl`his invention relates to new and useful improvements in sleeping bags and more particularly to a bag of this character which is especially adapted for infants,'and the main object of the invention is to provide a sleeping bag which is formed in three sections, namely the base or mattress section the cover section which is detachably connected to the mattress section, and a removable pillow detachably secured to one end of the mattress section.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a sleeping bag of the above character which will possess advantages in points of eiiiciency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and, at the same time, is simple in construction and operation.
lVith the above and other objects in view,
the invention consists in the novel features' of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
ln the accompanying drawing forming a. part of this application, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a sleeping bag constructed in accordance with my invention, the cover ,f thereof being shown in a partly removed position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, parts being broken away and shown in section. Fig. 3 is an end elevation. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 4 4, Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 5 5, Fig. 2.
ln carrying out my invention, l provide a mattress section which is generally indicated by the numeral 1, preferably formed of a lightweight wool material and covered upon the outer face thereof, with waterproof sheeting which is indicated by the numeral 2, the edges of which are sewed to the mattress, as shown at 3. lt will 'be noted that by vproviding this wrapper or water-proof sheeting upon the upper face of the mattress, the mattress may be readily washed, when desired to keep the same in a ritish lColumbia, Dominion ofl Specification of Letters Patent. Patented lll, 2, 1915., Application le'd March 23, 1914; Serial No. 826 715. i
bed, or even placed upon the ground in any desired position.
The cover, which is indicated by the numeral 4, may be formed of any desirable material and is to be slightly larger than the mattress 1, so that when the same is secured thereto, the edges of the cover will drop down over and entirely cover the body of the mattress. The longitudinal edges of the mattress are provided with suitable catch members, indicated by the numeral 5, which are adapted to be detachably engaged with the catch members 6, carried by the co-ver 4, so as to securely retain the cover in position when placed over the mattress. rl`he length of the cover is to be suiicient to cover the entire body of the occupant of the bag, up to the neck, 'allowing only the head to protrude beyond the end of the cover.
The detached end of the cover is retained in position about the neck of the occupant by means of a strap 7, the medial portion of which is sewed or otherwise secured to the end of the mattress, while the ends thereof are tied around the occupants neck, as indicated by the numeral 8. Removably secured to the open end of the bag and preferably secured to the end of the mattress, is
a pillow member, indicated by the numeral- 9, the inner face of the pillow being substantially concaved, as indicated at 10 and provided therein with the sockets 11 which are adapted to be detachably engaged with the catch members 12 carried by the end of the mattress, so that the pillow member 9 may be readily attached to or detached from the mattress. lt is preferred to have the pillow 9 constructed of thesame material as the mattress and to be of a size incomparison cleansed and it will be apparent that thel cover member 4 may be removed washed, when. desired It will alsobe ap-Y parent that the device as herein shown and described, is extremely simple in construe-` tion and can be manufactured at a. comparatively j While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it'willbe obvious that various.. changesvin the details of construction' and in the' proportions may be resorted to for successfully carryinfv my invention into practice, without sacrigcing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claim'.
Having thus describedthisnwention, what claim 1s' 'As a new article of mnufacture, a sleeping bag for 'Infants includingv an elongated mattress section having one extremity curved'transversely, a pillow member having one marginal portion disposed inwardly on a curvature complemental to the curvature f the end o'f the mattress section, said curved. wall, of the pillow member and the curved end of thel sleeping bag being -provided with coacting means whereby the pillow membermay be detachably engaged with the mattress section, anchoring members dis nal wals of the mattress section, and an elongated cover member r`ovided along its lon tudjnal margins wit members to (fetac ab] engage the anchorin l members along t e loniitudinal walls of t e mattress section'.v where y. said covermember may be entirely disengaged from the mattress sec.
