UNITED STATES PATENT omen.
SAW-SET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1914.
Application filed July 7, 1913. Serial No. 777,662.
To all 107mm it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERIK V. SETTERLUND, a citizen of Canada, residing at Sandridge, in the Province of Manitoba, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Sets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in saw sets and its object is to produce a'device of this class that is easily applied and operated and which may be quickly and accurately adjusted to teeth of various sizes and degrees of pitch.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following spccification, pointed out in the claim and illustrutcd in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved saw set. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section in side elevation. Fig. 4: 1s a section taken on line 4--iof Fig.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My saw set comprises an upper jaw 1 which comprises an integral sheath 2 and a head 3. To the jaw 1 the lower jaw formed with a handle section 4 and a head section 5 is secured by a pivot (3 and a pin 7 which passes through an elongated slot 8 in the sheath 2. The lower jaw sections 4-, 5 are flexibly connected as at 9 by a pin 10. About the aforesaid pin 6 passes a spring 11 .thc extremities of which rest against the handle portions of the upper and lower jaws to force the same apart as best shown in Fig. 12 is a saddle passing about the sheath 2 and engaging the ends of the pin 7 and said saddle is provided with a set screw 13 by means of which the distance between the t two jaws and hence the pressure of the one jaw upon the other through the may be regulated.
14 is a bifurcated guide plate mounted upon the head 3 of the jaw 1 and provided with a set screw 15 in its bifurcated portion spring 11 .which screw passes through the said head and through the medium of which the said guide plate may be adjusted longitudinally of said head. The forked terminations 16, 17 of the guide plate are disposed upon 0pposite sides of the head 3 normally in the plane of the apertured portion 18 of said head which portion is disposed in alinement with the apertured portion 19 of the lower jaw which portion opens into an elongated apertured portion 20 in said jaw in which the thumb nut 21 is disposed that carries and actuates the anvil that extends up through the apertured portion 19 of the lower jaw to engage the teeth of the saw blade 23 under operation, I,
Operation: The saw blade 23 is passed between the upper and lower jaws at their forward termination after the guide plate ll has been adjusted upon the head 3 to regulate the distance that the said blade shall extend into the tool. The jacket 12 is adjusted to regulate the tension of the upper and lower jaws, the thumb nut 91 is then rotated to the right or left to raise or lower the anvil as desired depending upon the degree of pitch to be given the tooth, the jaws are then manually pressed together and the operation is performed upon one tooth; the operation is, of course repeated upon each tooth it is desired to set.
W'hat is claimed is i In a saw set, an upper jaw comprising a slotted sheath and an integral head disposed in advance'of said sheath, a guide plate adjustably secured to said head, a lower sectional jaw pivotally connected to said upper jaw, a spring disposed between said jaws, an adjustable saddle disposed about said sheath and operativcly connected to the same and to the lower sectional jaw and an adjustable anvil carried by the said lower sectional aw.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto atlixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERIK \V. SETIERLUND. Witnesses GARNET HILBORN, HAROLD F. IIILnonN.
