CLOTHES-LINE REEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28, 1913.
Application filed February 24, 1913. Serial No. 750,346.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr J. BUSER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Freedom, in the county of Beaver and Stat-e of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Reels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to clothes line reels, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a hand reel of novel construction that permits of a clot-hes line being easily and quickly wound thereon and readily carried.
A further object of this invention is to provide a clothes line reel consisting of coinparatively few parts that can be easily and quickly assembled, and manufactured at a comparatively small cost, and used without injury to a clothes line.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing,
wherein Figure'l is a side elevation of a reel partly broken away and partly in section, and Fig. 2 is an end view of a reel.
A reel in accordance with this invention comprises a spindle or cylindrical body 1 and secured to one end of said body by screws 2 or other fastening means is a circular stationary head 3. The screws 2 are also employed for holding the inner end 4 of an angularly disposed crank 5 in engagement with the head 3. The crank 5 terminates in a handle 6, which facilitates revolving the spindle and the head 3 attached thereto.
The reference numeral 7 denotes a circular head corresponding in diameter to the head 3 and secured to the outer side of the head 7 by screws 8 or other fastening means is a handle 9 by which the clothes line reel can be easily carried or held whereby the spindle 1 and the head 3 can be revolved relatively to the head 7. The head 7 is provided with a concentric opening 10 and mounted in said opening is a bushing 11.
Secured to the sides ofthe head 7 and having openings registering with the bushing 11 are side plates 12, these plates being held in posit-ion by screws 13 or other fastening means. and the bushing 11 is a screw 14 that is mounted in the end of the spindle or body 1 opposite'the head 3. A smooth portion of the screw 14 permits of said screws revolving in the bushing 11 and to reduce the friction between the head 7 and the body 1 to a minimum, a small washer 15 is arranged upon the screw.
Connected to the body 1, adjacent to the head 7, by. screws 16 or other fastening means is a resilient clip 17 and this clip is adapted to hold the inner end or first convo- Extending through the plates 12 lution of a clothes line wound upon the spindle or body 1. lVith the end of a clothes line attached to the spindle or body 1, it is apparent that the handle 9 can be held in one hand while the body 1 and the head 3 are revolved through the medium of the other hand gripping the handle 6 of the crank 5. In this manner, a clothes'line can be easily and quickly wound upon the spindle or cylindrical body.
One embodiment of my invention has been illustrated, but it is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such changes, as in the size, shape, and manner of assemblage as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lVhat I claim is u A clothes line reel comprising a cylindrical body, securing the crank,
and projecting from the other end of said body, a circular head, a bushing carried by the last mentioned head and rotatably mounted upon said screw, means for main MAX H. SRoLovrrz, KATHERINE ERRETT.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
