HERIVLANN JAKOB KCCH, OF COLOGNE, GERMANY.
BRACKET-SEAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 14, 1912.
Patented July 29, 1913. Serial No. 677,438.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN Janos KOCH, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, residing at Cologne-on-the-Ithine, in the Empire of Germany, have invented a new and useful Bracket-Seat, of which the following is a specification.
Folding bracket-seats for children adapted to hang on backs or arm-rests of benches and chairs or on other objects are as a rule provided with special devices for securing them in their folded or unfolded state.
My invention relates to improvements in such folding bracket-seats, whereby the said special devices are rendered superfluous.
The chief improvement consists in making both the back and the small table detachable and in so arranging them, that they can secure the bracket-seat in its folded and unfolded state.
Another improvement consists in movable catches for securing the back and the small table.
I will now proceed to describe my invention with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the unfolded bracket-seat, Fig. 2 is a view of the folded bracket-seat, and Figs. 3 and 4 are details.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The wooden bot-tom l of the bracketseat is on its four corners provided with hinges 6, 6, in which the bottom parts 2, 2 of two folding frames are mounted to turn. Each folding frame comprises besides the bottom part 2 an arm-rest 4, a front upright 11 and a rear upright 5, which latter projects from the arm-rest 4 and is made integral with a hook 12. A back 8 is according to my invention made detachable, it being provided at the ends on the rear side with resilient clamps 9, 9 (Fig. 3), which can be easily pushed over the two rear uprights 5, 5 for gripping them. These two clamps 9, 9 are also adapted to grip the bottom parts 2, 2. A removable lock 10 made from wire in a manner clearly shown at Fig. 4 is provided on each upright 5 so that it can be easily pushed over the corresponding end of the back 8 for locking the same. A small table 7, which may be made similar in shape to the back 8, is at its two ends on the underside also provided with resilient clamps 9, 9 (Fig. 3), which are adapted to grip either the arm- rests 4, 4 or the bottom parts 2, 2. The two arm- rests 4, 4 are also each provided with removable locks 10, 10 (Fig, 4).
After the above explanations it is obvious, that the bracket-seat can be easily folded by so turning the two folding frames as to place the two arm- rests 4, 4 on the bottom 1 (Fig. 2) after which both the back 8 and the small table 7 are placed over the two arm-rests and are pushed downward, so that their clamps 9, 9 engage and grip the two bottom parts 2, 2. As the two hooks 12, 12 are approximately in the same plane as the bottom 1, it is evident, that the folded bracket-seat does not occupy much space and can be easily transported.
When it is desired to use the bracket-seat, first the back 8 and the small table 7 are taken 03 the two bottom- parts 2, 2, then the two folding frames are turned upwards and the two hooks 12, 12 are put over some supporting object, for example over the back 13 (indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1) of some bench, next the back 8 is applied to the two rear uprights 5, 5 and its resilient clamps 9, 9 are forced over the same, after which the two removable locks 10, 10 on the same are pushed over the two ends of the back 8, and finally the small table 7 is put on by forcing its resilient clamps 9, 9 over the twoarm- rests 4, 4 and by turning upwards the two locks 10, 10 over the ends.
I claim:
In a bracket-seat of the class described, the combination with a bottom, of two frames hinged to said bottom on opposite sides and each comprising a bottom part turnable in the hinges, an arm-rest, a front upright connecting the bottom part with the arm-rest and a rear upright connecting the bottom part with the arm-rest and terminating in a hook above the arm-rest, the two hooks of said two frames being adapted to hang on some supporting object, a back provided at the ends with resilient clamps the rear uprights of said frames, and means adapted to grip either the bottom parts or for securing the ends of said small table on the rear uprights of said two frames, a small the arm-rests of said frames.
table provided at the ends With resilient HERMANN JAKOB KOCH. clamps adapted to grip either the bottom Witnesses:
parts or the arm-rests of said two frames, ANIs VANDoRY,
means for securing the ends of said back on TONY RI'FITTERMANN.
