Description

UNITED 'STATES PATENT GEFICE.
GEORGE A. BEIDLER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WOQDEN PAVEMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. BEIDLEE, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wooden Pavement 5 and do'hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description thereof; reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon,` making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists inthe construction and arrangement of Wooden blocks for pavements, as will be hereinafter fully set forth. 4
In order to enable others skilled in the art' to Which my invention appertains to make and use the saine, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figurelis a side view of a series of in clined blocks. Fig. 2 is a plan View, and Fig. 3 is a side view, of a square block.
A A represent Wooden blocks, made of suitable size for pavement, with either square or inclined'sides. The sides of these blocks are cut out, as shown, so as to form offsets or V- shaped joints a a, one block thus supporting the block on one side, and resting upon the block on the other; or, in other Words, the blocks overlap and interlock with each other.
A pavement made of these blocks may be used with either side up. On one side the edges of the blocks are scored 0r beveled off, so as to give a foot-hold for the hor-ses, but still form a smooth pavement. side are cut grooves b b, in Which eoncrete is poured.- This concrete settles in theI grooves, and gives, when this side is up, a foot-hold for horses, at the same time as it still more lirmly binds the blocks together.
Having thus fully described my invention, what 4I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Wooden blocks for pavements, having offsets or V-shaped joints a a, so constructed that the blocks will overlap and interlock with each other, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that* I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of June, 1870.
