Description

S. GRBENBERG.
PURSE.
APPLICATION FILED MAB-.18, 1910.

ATTORNEY UNITED STA'ILE I ATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL GREENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO KNICKERBOCKER LEATHER & NOVELTY COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
PURSE.
To 11/! whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL GREENBERG, a subject of the Czar of Russia, at present residing in the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York. have invented a new and useful Purse, of which the following is a specification.
My invention in purses has reference to that type employed as money pouches,
sachet-bags, portfolios, holsters and the like and relates more particularly to that class wherein a blank or strip of the material of which the receptacle is to be constructed is folded in a manner as to form the sides, bottom, back and cover thereof.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and simple construction for purses or similar receptacles in a simpler and less expensive manner than any of those in vogue and previous to my invention in so far as I am at present aware, and the chief features of novelty thereof will be found in the descriptive matter of the following specification and the attached drawings forming part thereof which are further pointed out in the claims. With reference to the drawings: Figure 1 is a rear elevational view of a blank from which my improved purse or pouch is formed. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the upper portion of the blank shown in Fig. 1, with the lower portion folded over upon it, and Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the purse when the blank Fig. 1 has been completely folded.
In the several figures, similar characters of reference designate like parts wherein,
A depicts a blank preferably of leather or other similar suitable material creased on lines I), c and d, to provide sections B, C, D and E. In the instance illustrated, the sections C and D together form an equilateral parallelogram having the sides I), d and A A respectively opposite each other, and on the sides I) and d are the respective curved flaps B and E. The sections C and D have the form of equilateral triangles and the sections B and E are of similar formation, with the exception of the outer terminals which are rounded off to form the fiaps or covers for the purse or pouch. On the flaps or covers B and E. as well as the sections C and D are snap button catches e, h, and f, y respectively. These are adapted to Specification of Letters Patent.

mutually engage corresponding parts when the sections are folded. \Vhen the blank is in the position illustrated in Fig. 1, the section I) is folded along the crease C, so that the crease d coincides with the edge A of the secti n C and the further edge A coincides with the crease Z). The section D will then he superimposed upon the section C and the folded blank will assume the formation illustrated in Fig. 2, after which the section IQ is folded on the line d in the same direction as the previras fold, until the section E or flap is br'iught in contact with the section C, when upon the snap button It upon being press d against the corresponding stud or snap button f sufliciently to engage the two will complete the folding operation of the purse or pouch whence the same wiltassume the position as illustrated in Fig. 3 with the exception that the flap B will be rai ed. This final folding is indicated by the curved broken line in Fig. 2.
It will be perceived that when it is desired to gain access to the purse, it is simply necessary to disconnect the fastening device and raise the flap, with the result that by slight pressure on the opposite edges thereof between the thumb and finger or fingers the purse will assume the form of an inverted cone, the mouth or upper portion of the cone being thereby so'enlarged thatready access may be had to the contents and the coin or coins removed therefrom.
It will be observed by my improved construction that the purse or pouch may be opened on either of the sides I) or (Z; thus it will be understood that the pouch is accessible from either side and is therefore convenient as a change pocket-book and affords facility in quick manipulation, and the same is simple in operation and durable in construction, and inexpensive in manufacture, and
Having fully described my invention. I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the U. S.
1. A purse, comprising a blank of flexible material. having a central diagonal fold, and parallel diagonal'folds adjacent Its ends, providing closure flaps on opposite sides of the purse and presenting, when folded, a purse of triangular shape.
2. triangular purse comprising a blank of flexible material having a central diago- I nal fold, and parallel diagonal folds adja- In testimony whereof, I have signed my cent its ends, providing closure fia'ps 0n opname to this specification in the presence of posite sides of the purse, and a fastening two subscrlbin witnesses.
device for each of said flaps whereby when AMUEL GREENBERG. one of said flaps is secured and the other WVitnesses: unfastened the purse may be compressed to CHAS. HAVENSTEIN,
distend it in the form of an inverted cone. S. KnAFr.
