Description

액세서리를 인증하는 방법 및 시스템{METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTHENTICATING AN ACCESSORY}
본 발명은 전반적으로 전기 디바이스(device)에 관한 것으로, 보다 구체적으로는 액세서리(accessory) 디바이스와 통신하는 미디어 플레이어(media player)와 같은 전자 디바이스에 관한 것이다.
미디어 플레이어는 미디어 플레이어 상에서 재생되거나 디스플레이되는 오디오 트랙(audio track) 또는 포토(photo)와 같은 미디어 자산(media asset)을 저장한다. 미디어 플레이어의 일 예는 미국 캘리포니아 큐퍼티노(Cupertino) 소재의 애플사(Apple Inc.)로부터 입수가능한 iPodTM 미디어 플레이어이다. 종종, 미디어 플레이어는 사용자가 미디어 자산을 관리하는 것을 가능하게 하는 호스트 컴퓨터로부터 그 미디어 자산을 획득한다. 일 예로서, 호스트 컴퓨터는 미디어 관리 애플리케이션을 실행하여 미디어 자산을 관리할 수 있다. 미디어 관리 애플리케이션의 일 예는 애플사에서 제조되는 iTunes®, 버전(version) 6.0이다.

도킹 커넥터( Docking Connector )
도 1a 및 1b는 본 발명에 따른 도킹 커넥터(100)를 도시한다. 먼저, 도 1a를 참조하면, 키잉 피쳐(keying featrue, 102)는 맞춤형 길이(custom length, 104)이다. 추가적으로, 특정 키 장치가 이용되며, 한 세트의 키가 커넥터의 하부에서 한 길이만큼 격리되며, 다른 세트의 키가 커넥터의 상부에서 다른 길이만큼 격리된다. 이러한 키 장치의 이용은 맞지 않는(noncompliant) 커넥터가 플러그 인(plug-in)되어, 디바이스에 잠재적인 손상을 야기하는 것을 방지한다. 전력용 커넥터는 전력용 파이어와이어(Firewire) 사양을 이용한다. 이러한 구성을 구현하기 위하여 커넥터는 선 접촉/후 접촉해제 컨텍트(first make/last break contact)를 포함한다. 도 1b는 선 접촉/후 접촉해제 컨텍트를 도시하며, 적절한 선 접촉/후 접촉해제 컨텍트의 제공과 관련된 접지 핀 및 전력 핀 또한 도시한다. 이러한 예에서, 접지 핀(204)은 전력 핀(206)보다 길다. 따라서, 접지 핀(204)은 전력 핀(206) 이전에 도킹 액세서리의 짝을 이루는 핀에 접촉하여, 디바이스의 전자장치 내부의 전기적 손상을 최소화할 것이다.

도킹 및 원격 커넥터 사양

도킹 커넥터 사양

액세서리의 인증

인증서
표준 인증서는 인증서 생성자(발행인, 국가 등), 인증서 타입, 유효 인증서 날짜 범위 및 기타 메타데이터와 같은 데이터의 컨테이너(container)로서 기능한다. 인증서(Authentication certificate, certificate, cert)는 하나 이상의 인증국(cerificate authority, CA)에 의해서 생성되고 서명되며, 특유의 일련번호를 가진다. 일 실시예에서, 인증서는 액세서리의 인증 코프로세서(coprocessor) 칩에 저장될 수 있을 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 인증서는 표준 인증서로서의 메타데이터뿐만 아니라, 디바이스 클래스 정보(device class information) 및 공개 키 또한 포함하며, 이것은 아래에서 보다 상세히 기술될 것이다.

일 실시예에서, 인증서가 다소간 타협하여 위조 장치에서 복제되는 경우에, 인증서를 이용하는 디바이스가 성공적으로 인증하는 것을 방지하기 위하여 타협된 일련 번호는 미디어 플레이어의 인증서 폐기 목록(CRL)에 추가될 수 있을 것이다. 미디어 플레이어의 인증서 파서(parser)가 인증서의 디바이스 클래스를 인식하지 않는 경우에, 미디어 플레이어는 인증서를 거부한다. 일 실시예에서, 디바이스 인증에 이용될 인증서는 사전설정된 수명(예컨대, 1-5년의 범위 등)을 가질 수 있을 것이며, 이것은, 예컨대 날짜에 의해서 설정될 수 있을 것이다. 일 실시예에서, 인증서 만료는 만료일이 경과한 후에 디바이스 일련 번호를 CRL에 추가함으로써 완료될 수 있다.

계속해서 도 7을 참조하면, 단계 704에서, 배경 인증 동작 동안에, 미디어 플레이어는 인증 정보 요청을 액세서리에 전송한다. 일 실시예에서, 미디어 플레이어는 타임아웃 타이머를 개시시킨다. 다음으로, 단계 706에서, 액세서리는 인증 정보를 미디어 플레이어에 전송한다. 일 실시예에서, 인증 정보는 인증 주버전(major version), 인증 부버전(minor version) 및 공개 인증서를 포함하며, 인증서는 (예컨대, 500byte 이상인 경우처럼) 대용량인 경우에는 섹션들로 분할될 수 있을 것이다. 인증서가 섹션들로 분할되는 경우에는, 인증 정보의 수신시에, 미디어 플레이어는 인증서를 리어셈블(reassemble)한다. 인증서가 완전히 어셈블(assemble)된 때에, 인증서는 디바이스 클래스 정보를 위하여 파싱(parsing)된다. 그 후에, 미디어 플레이어는 디바이스 클래스 정보로부터의 클래스 번호를 허용된 커맨드 마스크(command mask)로 변환한다. 이러한 마스크는 디바이스에 의해서 식별된 커맨드가 인증서에 의해서 허용되었음을 확인하는 데에 이용된다. 즉, 미디어 플레이어는 적어도 부분적으로는 디바이스 클래스 정보에 기초하여 인증서를 확인한다.
다음으로, 단계 708에서, 미디어 플레이어는 인증 정보를 확인한다. 인증 정보는 많은 이유로 무효일 수 있을 것이다. 예컨대, 인증 버전이 유효하지 않은 경우, 공개 인증서가 만료된 경우, 또는 공개 인증서가 인증서 폐기 목록(CRL)에 존재하는 경우에 인증 정보는 무효일 수 있을 것이다. 인증 정보 중 어느 것이 무효인 경우에는 배경 인증 동작은 실패하게 된다. (재시도 카운트 및 타임아웃 한계를 초과하지 않았다면) 실패는 인증 프로세스를 재시작하게 할 것이다. 인증 버전이 확인되고, 인증서 클래스 커맨드가 미디어 플레이어의 식별 커맨드에 의해서 요청된 것과 일치하거나 이를 초과한 것으로 판정된 경우에, 그리고 인증 체인(certification chain)이 검증된 경우에는 배경 인증 동작은 통과된다. 일 실시예에서, 위험하지 않은 미디어 플레이어 커맨드 애플리케이션 기능 및 커맨드 처리는 인증 프로세스가 계속되는 동안에 인에이블링(enabling)된다. 일 실시예에서, 미디어 플레이어는 버전 정보 상태를 나타내는 액세서리에 메시지를 전송할 수 있을 것이다.
다음으로, 단계 710에서, 제2 인증 동작 동안에, 미디어 플레이어는 인증 서명 요청을 액세서리에 전송한다. 인증 서명 요청은 디바이스에 의해서 서명될 랜덤 넌스/챌린지(random nonce/challenge)를 포함한다. 구체적인 넌스/챌린지 길이는 변할 수 있을 것이며, 구체적인 구현에 따라 달라질 것이다. 다음으로, 단계 712에서, 액세서리는 인증 서명(즉, 서명된 챌린지/서명을 가지는 메시지)을 미디어 플레이어에 전송한다. 다음으로, 단계 714에서, 인증 서명의 수신시에, 미디어 플레이어는 인증 서명(즉, 서명된 챌린지)을 확인한다. 일 실시예에서, 미디어 플레이어는 액세서리로부터의 디바이스 ID에 기초하여 공개 키를 이용해서 서명된 넌스/챌린지를 검증한다. 바람직한 실시예에서, 미디어 플레이어는 액세서리에 의해서 제공되는 인증서로부터의 공개 키를 이용하여 서명된 넌스/챌린지를 검증한다.
일 실시예에서, 액세서리 인증 프로세스는, 액세서리가 비밀 키를 가지고, 미디어 플레이어가 연관 공개 키를 가지는 공개 키/비밀 키 시스템에 기초한다. 액세서리 인증 프로세스는 액세서리 프로토콜 커맨드와 밀접하게 통합된다.
인증 프로세스를 완료하기 전에, 미디어 플레이어는 서명 상태 및 인증 프로세스 완료를 나타내는 인증 상태 메시지를 액세서리에 전송한다. 미디어 플레이어가 인증 서명을 검증한 경우에는 인증이 통과된다. 그렇지 않은 경우에는, 인증 프로세스는 실패한다. 인증이 통과된 경우에, 미디어 플레이어의 애플리케이션은 차단해제(unblock)하여 사용자가 디바이스에 액세스하는 것을 허용한다.
인증 프로세스가 실패하는 경우에, 미디어 플레이어의 디바이스 포트는 액세서리를 폐쇄(lockout)할 것이다. 또한, 실패시에, 미디어 플레이어는 액세서리가 미디어 플레이어 자원을 이용하는 것을 막기 위하여 액세서리를 인증하지 않는다(de-authorize). 일 실시예에서, 미디어 플레이는 미디어 플레이어의 애플리케이션에 인증 상태를 전송할 수도 있을 것이다. 예컨대, 인증이 실패하는 경우에, 미디어 플레이어의 애플리케이션은 "접속 실패(Connection Failed)" 메시지를 디스플레이할 수 있을 것이다.
일 실시예에서, 인증 동작은 재시도 카운트 및 최대 타임아웃을 이용할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서, 일 실시예에서, 재시도 카운트 또는 최대 타임아웃이 초과되는 경우에도 인증이 실패할 수 있을 것이다. 포트의 폐쇄는 인증 재시도/타입아웃 카운트를 리셋(reset)하기 위하여 액세서리가 디태치(detach)를 시뮬레이션하는 것 또는 재식별하는 것(re-identifying)을 막는다. 일 실시예에서, 디바이스 포트 인증 상태가 "폐쇄(lockout)"로 설정된 경우에는 유입 패킷이 삭제될 수 있을 것이다. 이것은 폐쇄된 디바이스 패킷이 처리되는 것을 방지할 것이다. 일 실시예에서, 실패가 인증서에 의해서 허용된 것 이상의 커맨드를 식별하는 액세서리에 기인하는 것이라면, 인증 실패시에 디바이스 폐쇄가 활성화되지 않고, 액세서리가 재식별하는 것이 허용될 수 있을 것이다.

Claims (1)

  1. 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능을 작동시키는(invoke) 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드를 정의하는 미디어 플레이어 액세서리 프로토콜에 따라 미디어 플레이어(media player)와 상호작용하도록 구성된 액세서리 장치와 통신하는 미디어 플레이어에 의해서 수행되는 방법으로서,
    인증 동작을 실행하여 상기 액세서리 장치를 인증하는 단계와,
    상기 인증 동작 동안에, 상기 액세서리 장치로부터 상기 미디어 플레이어 액세서리 프로토콜의 상기 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드 중 적어도 하나를 수신하고, 수신한 애플리케이션 커맨드에 대한 응답으로서, 상기 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능 중 하나를 작동시키는 단계
