Abstract

An apparatus and a method for transceiving a text message in a mobile communication terminal are provided to select attribute information of multimedia data in the text message, thereby obtaining MMS(Multimedia Message Service) effect using SMS(Short Message Service). A method for transceiving a text message in a mobile communication terminal comprises the following steps of: determining whether a background selection request signal is inputted in the text message; transmitting the text message when the background selection request signal is not inputted in the text message; selecting data of a multimedia to be used as a background when the background selection request signal is inputted in the text message; outputting attribute information of the selected multimedia data; and inserting the outputted multimedia data attribute information into the text message and transmitting the inserted message.
