Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable clear printing even on a paper having low smoothness, by incorporating at least one aluminum complex soap into a heat-fusible ink layer. CONSTITUTION:A base may be a paper such as glassine paper and condenser paper or a plastic such as a polyester or a polycarbonate, whereas a heat-fusible ink layer on the base comprises a heat-fusible binder, a softener, a coloring agent and the like as main constituents. Aluminum complex soap may be, for example, Olive AOS (trade name) comprising aluminum oxide stearate associated in a ring form or Olive AOO (trade name) comprising aluminum oxide octate associated in a ring form. At least one of such aluminum complex soaps is used in an amount of 0.5-10pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the ink. By such constitution, the efficiency of transfer of the ink is enhanced, and clear printing can be conducted even on a paper having low smoothness.

This method involves bringing the recording paper into contact with the thermal transfer layer of the thermal transfer type recording material, applying pressure, bringing the thermal head into contact with the back surface of the base material, and sending a pulsed electrical signal to the head to heat the head. Printing is performed by transferring the heat-melting ink in the heat transfer layer at the heated location.

Heat-melt inks used in such heat-sensitive transfer recording materials have conventionally used wax as a main component as a heat-melt binder in order to cause a sharp phase change between solid-liquid-solid during thermal transfer. Its ingredients included pigments and dyes as colorants, and oils and synthetic resins as softeners.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) However, as mentioned above, since the main component of conventional hot-melt inks is wax, their cohesive force is weak when melted, and therefore paper with a rough surface (low When printed on smooth paper, the problem was that the image was unclear.

This is because the diameter and depth of the pores on the paper surface are large in low smooth paper.
This is because the contact area with the ink during transfer is small, so if the ink has a low cohesive force, the non-contact area will remain on the thermal transfer recording material and will not be transferred to the paper.
If you simply increase the ratio of synthetic resin components to increase cohesive force, the adhesiveness of the ink will increase, resulting in poor peeling between the base material of the thermal transfer recording material and the ink during transfer, and the melting point and softening of the ink. Since the point increases, it cannot be used with conventional thermal heads.

(Function) The above-mentioned aluminum complex soap contained in the heat-melting ink layer of the present invention is a well-known gelling agent, but the present invention claims that this aluminum complex soap has a gelling effect even when the wax is in a molten state. Based on this knowledge, it was applied to thermal transfer recording materials.

In other words, when wax is melted, the viscosity decreases rapidly and there is almost no cohesive force when melted, but aluminum complex soap has a gelling effect even when the wax is melted, preventing a sudden decrease in viscosity and increasing the cohesive force. This improves the ink transfer efficiency, making it possible to print clearly even on low-smooth paper.
