Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain high-speed communication by transmitting a pulse of a prescribed level having different length in response to the combination of a prescribed number of digital signals. CONSTITUTION:Computers C1, C2 are connected via acoustic couplers M1, M2 and a telephone line 1 to transmit/receive digital signals of high/low levels. Four kinds of combinations of high/low (a), high/high (c), low/low (e) and low/high (g) are obtained from 2 bits of the digital signal, the acoustic couplers M1, M2 convet them into four kinds of pulses b, d, f, h of prescribed level but different length and transmit the result. The pulses are converted into digital signals of high/low levels at reception. Thus, the transmission speed is increased.

For example, when transmitting digital signals using an acoustic coupler, the transmission speed of the acoustic coupler is up to 1200 bits/
It is limited to about sec. This is mainly due to the characteristics of the central office exchange. However, there is a strong demand for higher density communication information, and higher transmission speeds are desired.

As mentioned above, the communication method according to the present invention transmits pulses of different lengths and constant levels in response to a combination of a certain number of digital signals, and the receiving side converts these pulses into corresponding combinations of digital signals. Since it is decomposed, it has the excellent effect of making the transmission speed higher than before.
