Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a high-quality cathode-ray tube with an excellent voltage- resisting characteristic to be obtained by subjecting the tube to high-voltage treatment by performing high-voltage ageing of the electrodes of an electron gun, without causing any spark or glass separation of the inner wall of the neck of the tube. CONSTITUTION:A part of a focusing electrode group, a high-voltage-applied electrode group, which corresonds to a main electron lens part is subjected to high-voltage treatment by, for example, developing compulsory discharge between the focusing electrodes by applying a high voltages with rectified half- waves across them, while heating the electrodes by irradiating at least one kind of beam chosen from among an ultraviolet beam, an infrared beam and a laser beam on part adjacent to the above main electron lens part. A high-voltage generator used in carrying out such high-voltage treatment as above is principally constituted of a step-up coil 10, a rectifier 11, a capacitor 12 used for adjusting the time constant of the wavy form of the discharge, a resistor 13, and an air pole gap 14 used for determining the peak value of the applied high voltage.
