Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of an optical transmitter and an optical receiver by branching an electric signal into two, by converting both signals into signals differing in wavelength, and then by multiplexing those optical signals. CONSTITUTION:Electrooptic conversion parts 3' (wavelength lambda1) and 4' (wavelength lambda2) for converting branched electric signals into signals differing in wavelength, and an optical filter 5' for multiplexing those two kind of the optical signals differing in wavelength are provided on a transmission side. At a reception side, a filter 6' and photoelectric converters 7' and 8' for converting said different-wavelength signals into electric signals are provided. Then, electric singals branched into two on a transmission side are converted into optical signals differing in wavelength and then multiplexed, and at a reception side, the filter 6' separates the input signal into signals having wavelengths lambda1 and lambda2, which are converted inversely of the conversion of the transmission side, thus extracting the original electric signal.
