Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure a strain precisely, by forming a transparent coating film, which adheres well to a sample surface and follows well it, on the surface of a grid pattern which is formed on the sample surface by a thin metallic film. CONSTITUTION:A metallic screen sheet is cut to a proper size to prepare a grid negative plate 1. In this case, a screen sheet which is made from nickel and has a grid interval L0=0.1mm. (250 mesh) is used. The grid negative plate 1 is put on the surface of a sample 2 closely, and the peripheral part of the grid negative plate 1 is fixed by an adhesive tape or the like, and metals such as Al and Au are vapor-deposited in vacuum to form a vapor-deposited film 5. The grid negative plate 1 is exfoliated to form a negative grid pattern, where the vapor- deposited film 5 is stuck to parts other than grid parts 3, on the sample surface. A transparent coating film 6 which adheres well to the sample surface and follows well it is formed on the surface of this grid pattern. An external force (tension or compression) is applied to the sample with the grid pattern formed to deform the sample, and grid intervals (l0) and (l) before deformation and after deformation are measured through photography by a plant microscope or the like, thus obtaining the strain.
