Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the relative speed between a magnetic tape and a head by narrowing the overall band width by recording a sound signal in the lower side band of a color signal which is nearly unused in the normal operation and then by reproducing the signal. CONSTITUTION:The frequency spectrum consists of FM luminance signal band 40, color signal band 41 and FM sound signal band 42. The luminance signal and color signal, constituting a video signal together, are correlated with a horizontal synchronizing signal strongly and brought into the relation of frequency interleaving, so that even when mutual side-band waves are made close, no disturbance will appear on the screen. Consequently, the overall frequency band can be narrowed. Since the sound signal decreases in frequency and increases in wavelength, narrow track recording is performed specially for high density recording and as adjacent tracks become closer and closer, tracks get easier and easier to be influenced by disturbance due to cross talk from adjacent tracks. For this purpose, two frequency- modulated carriers of an FM sound signal are used.
