Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it easy to discriminate pictures as to a two-screen television set, by displaying a background frame of random brightness and in random color at the edge of the 2nd screen. CONSTITUTION:A broadcast wave from antenna 11 is passed through tuner 12 and intermediate frequency amplifying circuit 13 to obtain a video signal. Part of the video signal is converted as a still picture by A/D converters 23, 24 and 25 into a digital signal, which is written in memories 28, 29 and 30. This stored signal is reconverted by D/A converters 35, 36 and 37 into an analog signal, which is displayed partially or fully on the display screen. To make viewers know clearly that the 2nd screen is in use, gate signal generating circuit 39 opens buffers 40, 41 and 42 for a period corresponding to the edge of the 2nd screen and a background frame signal of random brightness and in random color generated by setting circuits 43, 44 and 45 is sent to the display circuit, so that the picture can be discriminated.
