Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to improve resolution of still pictures, by not recording the sound signal on the disc but extending the side band of the picture signal for recording of the still picture in case that still pictures and dynamic pictures are recorded selectively onto the disc-shaped recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The video signal input from terminal F is separated into luminance components and color components by separating circuit 101, and luminance components are led to FM circuit 102, and the FM signal is led to dynamic picture/still picture mode change-over switch 103a. This switch 103a switches the signal to HPF 104 for dynamic picture which permits region (f) or more to pass through and the HPF for still picture which permits region (g) or more to pass through. That is, in the still picture recording time, the sound signal is not recorded on the disc recording medium, and the side band region of the picture signal is extended to (g); and in the dynamic picture recording the reproducing time, sound signal components are converted to frequency regions (a) and (b) between color signal components (c) converted to a low band and FM luminance signal components (d) and are superposed onto the FM luminance signal and the color signal and are recorded. As a result, resolution of still pictures can be improved.
