Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart the good adhesiveness which does not cause edge peeling between the undercoating layer and the photographic gelatin composition formed thereon by coating the water-based composition containing the copolymer composed of the specific monomers on a polyester substrate thereby forming the undercoating layer.
CONSTITUTION: The copolymer aqueous composition is obtained by dropping under stirring the monomers composed of n-butyl acrylate (a) 20W55wt%, glycidyl (meth)acrylate (b) 35W55wt% and (α-methyl) styrene (e) 10W30wt% in the water medium comprising compounding a surfactant for emulsion polymerization (e.g., dodecyl benzene sodium sulfonate) and a polymerization initiator (e.g., ammonium perioxide) and causing the same to polymerize at about 80°C. Next, the abovementioned composition is coated on a polyester substrate, whereby the undercoating layer of about 10W40g/m2 is formed.
